Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you firmly support tall apartment blocks, and both body paragraphs give relevant reasons—limited urban land and the affordability of flats for people moving from rural areas. The Yangon example helps illustrate how apartments can accommodate many residents on a small area. This addresses the main question, but some points are not fully explained. For instance, the claim that urban growth follows from rural migration needs a clearer link to high-rise housing, and the UAE example is asserted rather than supported with specific detail. The conclusion introduces loneliness and shared lobbies, a useful qualification, but this concern is not developed in the body. Explain how these trade-offs affect your overall position and extend each example more clearly.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two reason-based body paragraphs and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “Firstly,” “Secondly” and “In conclusion” make the main stages easy to identify. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical or unclear: the move from rural migration to “the economy of urban areas will keep rising” is not fully connected to the housing argument. Some linking expressions are awkward, and the conclusion adds loneliness without preparing for it earlier. Improve cohesion by making each paragraph develop one central point in a clear sequence—claim, explanation and example—and use references such as “this approach” or “these residents” to connect ideas naturally.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “urban housing shortage,” “affordable,” “infrastructure” and “economic growth,” which helps communicate your main ideas. However, the range is limited and several inaccurate or unnatural choices make parts difficult to interpret. Examples include “the shortest of lands” for land scarcity, “insolation home” for isolation, and “lobbies of flat,” whose intended meaning is unclear. There are also spelling and word-form problems, such as “forecast” where “first” or “firstly” is intended, and inconsistent use of “apartment,” “flat” and “high rise.” Build a more precise set of housing-related collocations and check spelling and word forms before submitting.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a cause-and-effect structure beginning “As a result” and a concessive conclusion beginning “even though.” However, control is uneven, and errors in sentence construction, agreement, articles and verb forms sometimes make the meaning harder to follow. For example, “Traditional houses is not affordable” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “the capital of UAE have achieved” has an agreement problem and needs an article. The opening sentence also joins ideas with faulty punctuation, and “this problem can be solve” uses the wrong verb form. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and verb, correct agreement, and complete punctuation; then vary sentence patterns while keeping them accurate.
