Student answer (Band 5.5)

the more effective way to provide sufficient homes in bigger cities is to construct tall apartments blocks.I genuially agree with this opinion, due to the fact that as urbanization roses, more people start living in cites, causes lack of spaces, so building tall apartment block means saving spaces for other consume.

as urbanization increase people want to shift themselves into cities for better opportunities for instance better schools, education, employment. So in many bigger cities there is no sufficient space which causes environmental damage like pollution, traffic. people are exploiling nature like deforestation, harming wildlife just to fit in cites. They are making seprate homes for themselves which are consuming a lot of space.

so in my opinion the best way is to build apartment blocks so different families can live in one building causing less damage to environment and cosuming less space. For instance in karachi population isvery large and land is limited so they prefer building appartment blocks rather then constructing seprate homes for themselelves as, it consume a lot of space and land.

On other hand, it also has disadvantage like people living in apartments are crowded and sometimes they wanted privacy. nevertheless if we want to protect the land from enviornmental damage we should make apartment blocks.

In conclusion, i prefer with constructing tall apartments rather tthen seprate homes due to the fact it consume a lot of space and damage the enviornment. so building apartment play cruicial role.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you agree that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes, and you support this with reasons about limited land, urban growth and environmental damage. The Karachi example also makes the argument more concrete. However, the response addresses the issue only partially because several points are asserted rather than explained—for example, how apartment living would reduce pollution or protect wildlife is not demonstrated. You briefly acknowledge disadvantages such as crowding and reduced privacy, but do not explain why these are outweighed by the benefits. The response is also 7 words below the required minimum. Develop the main reasons with clearer cause-and-effect explanation and a fuller response to the counterargument.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, supporting paragraphs, a counterpoint and a conclusion. The ideas generally relate to the central argument, and transitions such as “For instance,” “On other hand” and “In conclusion” help signal the direction of the discussion. However, progression between ideas is sometimes unclear: the first supporting paragraph moves from opportunities in cities to pollution and deforestation without fully connecting these points. Some linking is repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “so” and “due to the fact.” Paragraphing is present, but the argument would be easier to follow if each paragraph had one clear focus and ideas were linked more explicitly. Use referencing and transitions more precisely to show how each point supports your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “urbanization,” “environmental damage,” “deforestation,” “wildlife” and “privacy.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the issue beyond very basic terms. However, the range is limited and several noticeable spelling and word-choice errors affect clarity, such as “genuially,” “cites,” “exploiling,” “seprate” and “enviornmental.” Some combinations are also unnatural, including “saving spaces for other consume” and “people want to shift themselves into cities.” Repetition of “space,” “building” and “apartment blocks” further limits flexibility. Build a more accurate set of collocations for housing and urban planning, and proofread spelling and word forms so your intended meaning is consistently clear.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a reason clause beginning “due to the fact that” and a concession introduced by “nevertheless.” However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty. For example, “as urbanization roses, more people start living in cites, causes lack of spaces” has an incomplete or incorrectly connected clause, while “it consume a lot of space” shows subject–verb agreement problems. Articles, plurals and sentence boundaries are also inconsistent, as in “build apartment blocks” and the long opening sentence joined without appropriate punctuation. These errors occur frequently enough to make some sentences difficult to process, although the overall meaning is usually recoverable. Practise accurate clause construction and agreement, then check articles, punctuation and sentence boundaries.
