Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

While some may argue that constructing higher buildings may solve the problem to suffice hosuing facilities in the increase population of a particular region, i strongly disagree with the thought as it creates risk in the conditions of natural calamities and makes the space more congested with sewage problems.

On the first hand, living in a high storey apartment looks fancy from the surface but has a definitive chance that to cause much bad consequences in future. In the era of global warming, many natural disasters like earthquakes, floods and torrential weather, the skycrappers might not survive them and collapse. for instance, if the government regulations for maintaining the wear and tear of the building is not followed, the buildings might not last long enough. Therefore to avoid such mishappenings overcrowding should be restrained.

Another major arguement is that making higher buildings may occupy many families resulting in larger sewage requirement. Furthermore in crowded apartments and joint family conditions there are even additional chances of sewage system tom fail. For example if the government has a planned system of sewage in the city, overcrowding might force exploiting the environment to accomodate the over population. So, to prevent such situations it is essential to ensure that cities refrain from such actions of creating tall apartment.

In conclusion, even if the gains of high rise buildings may appear fascinating and attractive, considering the loss and risks in the long run, I strongly oppose the idea of constructing tall apartments just for mere benefits of short term

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly disagree with tall apartment blocks, and the conclusion maintains that view. You also give two relevant reasons—risks during natural disasters and pressure on sewage systems—and attempt to support them with examples. This addresses the task, but the reasons are not equally well developed. The disaster paragraph links building safety to maintenance regulations, yet it does not explain how this makes tall blocks a less effective way to provide homes than alternatives. The sewage point is also asserted rather than demonstrated, and the example about city planning remains general. Develop each point with a clearer explanation and a specific, plausible example, while acknowledging that high-rise housing can accommodate many households in limited space.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. The progression from building safety to sewage capacity is easy to follow, and signposts such as “Furthermore,” “For example,” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This shows sound organisation and some effective linking. However, several transitions feel formulaic, particularly “On the first hand,” and the links between claims and examples are not always clear. For instance, the example about government sewage planning does not fully explain how tall blocks themselves cause environmental exploitation. Use more precise transitions and make each example directly illustrate the claim before moving to the next point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “natural calamities,” “overcrowding,” “sewage system,” and “government regulations,” which helps communicate your main concerns. There are also some less common expressions, such as “torrential weather.” However, inaccurate word choice, collocation, and spelling are noticeable and sometimes make the argument harder to understand. Examples include “suffice hosuing facilities,” “higher storey apartment,” “definitive chance,” and “sewage system tom fail.” Some phrases, such as “fascinating and attractive,” are also imprecise in this context. Aim for accurate, natural combinations such as “meet housing demand,” “high-rise apartment blocks,” and “sewage capacity,” and proofread spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You use both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a conditional structure in “if the government regulations … are not followed” and a concessive opening in “even if the gains … may appear.” These attempts help express cause, condition, and contrast. However, some sentence structures and punctuation are faulty, and these occasionally make relationships between ideas unclear. For example, “there are even additional chances of sewage system…” does not form a complete, well-controlled construction, while the opening sentence is overloaded and difficult to follow. There are also issues with sentence boundaries and capitalisation, such as beginning “for instance” with a lowercase letter after a full stop. Build complex sentences around one clear main clause, check agreement and articles, and proofread punctuation.
