Student answer (Band 5.5)
in recent time we have heard this topic to decide what type of building should be build to provide sufficient homes to people living in larger cities, whether we should build vertical or horizontal buildings. in my opinion we should look towards high rise building, below essay will explain the reasons.
First of all high rise buildings covers less land, you can build as many apartments as you want on a small piece of land, that also saves the cost and managing building also becomes easier. for example people living in same building will need same secuirty system, common water and electricity system. That reduces the management cost.
secondly, having a high rise vertical blocks can also help people to be more social, it allows them to create a community that can help each others, for example you might see a lawyer, doctor, teacher or stock broker living in the same buidling, so if they need help or information about any field they can reach out each other more easily.
In Conclusion, tall apartments building not only use the less portion of land, but also help people of different fields to stay connected which develope society and culture of helping each other in difficult times. Thats why i strongly believe we should build more high rise buildings so we can avoid the unnecessary use of land as well as develop society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you strongly support building tall apartment blocks, and both main reasons—using less land and enabling residents to form a community—are relevant to the question. The examples of shared services and neighbours with different professions help illustrate these points. However, the second reason is less fully explained: the essay asserts that residents can help one another but does not show how this benefit compares with other ways of providing homes. The response also contains 231 words, below the required 250, so there is limited space to develop the argument. To strengthen the response, explain each reason in more depth and consider a relevant limitation or alternative before reaffirming your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction states your view, two body paragraphs present separate reasons, and a conclusion restates your position. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all” and “secondly” make the progression easy to follow. Some linking is mechanical, however, and the conclusion largely repeats the introduction rather than drawing the argument together. Within the second body paragraph, the list of professions is relevant, but the connection between living in one building and becoming more socially supportive could be made more explicit. Use a wider range of natural transitions and clearer references between claims and examples, while ensuring each paragraph develops one central point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use adequate vocabulary to communicate the topic, including “high rise,” “apartments,” “management cost,” and “community.” There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “vertical blocks” and “unnecessary use of land.” However, several spelling and word-choice errors reduce precision, including “secuirty,” “buidling,” and “develope.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “same security system” and “reach out each other.” Aim for accurate spelling and more natural collocations; for example, describe shared facilities and say that residents can “contact one another.” A broader range of housing-related terms would also help you express the argument more precisely without repeating “high rise buildings.”
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more extended sentence forms, and the main ideas are generally understandable. However, errors in agreement, articles, plurals, and sentence construction occur in several places. For example, “high rise buildings covers” should have a plural verb, while “build vertical or horizontal buildings” needs a more accurate structure. The opening sentence is also difficult to follow because it combines several ideas without clear punctuation. There are some complex attempts, such as the sentence beginning “for example you might see,” but these would be clearer if divided or carefully joined. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries, and use a wider range of accurate complex structures.
