Student answer (Band 6.0)
The rapid growth of urban population has created a serious shortage of housing in many large cities. some people believe that constructing tall apartment buildings is the best solution to this problems. I largely agree with this view, because high rise building can accomadate more people while using less land, although other housing solutions also necessary.
one major advantages of building tall apartment blocks is that can provide homes for a large number of people in a limited area. In others words instead of constructing hundreds of seperaste houses across a wide area, several families can live in one high-rise building. This is particularly useful in densely populated cities where land is expensive and increasingly scare. For example, cities like singapore and kathmandu have developed many high rise residential building to accomadate their growing populations without using excessive amountsof land.
Another important benefit is that high-rise housing can improve reducing urban expenses. If cities mainly construct low-rise houses, they may need to spread habitats. By building upwards rather than outwards, governments can preserve more open spaces and agricultural land. furthermore, apartment blocks are often located close to public transport, schools, hospitals, and shooping centers, which can make daily life more convient and reduce peoples dependence on private vechicles.
However, i dont believe that tall buildings are a perfect soloution in evvery situation. Some peoplle prefer individuals houses because they provide greater privacy, outdoor space and a more peacefully living enviroment. IN additional, poorly, outdoor space and a more peaceful living environment. In addition, poorly planned high rise developments can create problems such as overcrowding, trtaffic, congestion and pressure on water, electricity and ther publics services. Therefore governments should carefully plan residential areas and improve infrastructure alongside the construction os apartments.
In conclusion, I agree that tall apartment blocks are one of the most effective ways to provide sufficent housing in large cities, mainly because they accomadate many residents while conserving valuable land. Nevertheless, they should be combined with other housing options and proper urban planning to create comfortable and sustainable cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you largely agree that tall apartment blocks are an effective response, while recognising that they are not suitable in every situation. You address the main parts of the task and support your view with relevant reasons, including land efficiency, access to services, and the need for infrastructure planning. The examples of Singapore and Kathmandu help illustrate your point, although they are asserted rather than explained in detail. The discussion of privacy and outdoor space adds balance, but the counterargument could be developed further and linked more explicitly to when alternative housing is preferable. Overall, the response is relevant and supported, though some claims remain broad.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The essay has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two supporting paragraphs, a counterargument, and a conclusion that restates your position. Ideas generally progress logically, and signposts such as “Another important benefit,” “However,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. This clear organisation is a strength. However, cohesion is not consistently controlled. The sentence beginning “Some people prefer individual houses” is followed by a corrupted, repeated fragment (“IN additional, poorly, outdoor space…”), which interrupts the argument and makes the transition difficult to follow. Some links between claims could also be made more explicit—for example, explain how proximity to services follows from building high-rise housing. More careful editing and varied, precise referencing would strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt topic-specific vocabulary, including “densely populated,” “preserve open spaces,” “agricultural land,” and “infrastructure,” and these choices communicate the main ideas. However, the range and control are limited by frequent spelling errors and inaccurate word forms or collocations. Examples include “accomadate,” “seperaste,” “scare” for “scarce,” “shooping,” and “vechicles”; these errors are noticeable and sometimes slow the reader. Phrases such as “improve reducing urban expenses” and “spread habitats” are also unclear or unnatural. Aim to use fewer ambitious phrases but ensure they are accurate, and proofread spelling carefully. More precise expressions such as “reduce urban sprawl” would make the argument clearer and more natural.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mixture of simple and complex sentence forms, including a concession in the introduction (“although other housing solutions also necessary”) and a conditional structure (“If cities mainly construct low-rise houses…”). The overall meaning is usually recoverable, but grammatical control is inconsistent. Examples include missing verbs or articles in “other housing solutions also necessary” and “one major advantages … is that can provide,” as well as agreement problems in “high rise building can accommodate.” The sentence beginning “Some people prefer individual houses” becomes incomplete and duplicated, disrupting the syntax. Capitalisation and punctuation are also inconsistent, particularly at sentence beginnings. Practise complete clause structure, subject–verb agreement, and accurate sentence boundaries; then proofread each sentence to ensure it has a clear subject and verb.
