To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 6.0)
Due to growing urbanization around the world, providing housing for every citizen is becoming increasingly difficult. While some people believe that tall apartment blocks are the best way to accommodate the individuals, I firmly believe that it will affect the private life of families. Therefore, I strongly disagree with the statement and also state several possible alternatives.
Tall buildings may be helpful in accommodating the increasing population in the cities but it comes with several negative aspects such as in apartments there are no spaces where families can arrange get together and unwind themselves. Moreover, some people like private life which will not be possible in that type of building where many people have to stay together. Furthermore, it will also detrimental for children as there are not spaces available nearby where the can play sports.
Skyscrapers also have benefits such as there are spaces in these buildings where people can start their IT companies or online business. Additionallay, there will be more job opportunities for youngsters in the cities. However, these all economic benefits are short-term and will badly affects the social life of the citizens. The necessity is to work on the land available in the villages and the Government have to focus on facilitating the citizens in their rural areas.
In conclusion, from my perspective building upward instead of sideways is not the appropriate solution to adjust growing population; infact the government have to focus on establishing the satellite societies in the villages where more land is available. If all the facilities will available in the villages the rural citizens will never opt to move to the cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly disagree with relying on tall apartment blocks, and the conclusion returns to this view by proposing satellite communities. You also acknowledge a benefit of high-rise buildings, including space for businesses and employment, which helps address the issue rather than presenting only one side. However, the main argument about privacy and family life is asserted more than explained: clarify how apartment living specifically limits privacy or social space, and support this with a concrete example. The alternative of developing villages is relevant, but needs fuller explanation of how housing and services there would meet urban demand. Some ideas are therefore more developed than others.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a coherent overall arrangement: an introduction states your position, the body paragraphs discuss disadvantages and benefits or alternatives, and the conclusion restates your view. Linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “Furthermore,” “However,” and “In conclusion” make the relationships between points generally clear. This organisation is effective, though some connections feel mechanical, and the second body paragraph moves quickly from business space to jobs, social effects, and rural development. The reference in “these all economic benefits” is also not fully natural or precise. To strengthen progression, group related points more clearly and explain the link between each claim and your central argument, rather than relying mainly on signposting words.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “urbanization,” “accommodate,” “private life,” “job opportunities,” and “satellite societies.” These choices make the subject and your position clear, and you attempt more specific language than basic terms such as “houses” or “people.” Some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, however, such as “arrange get together,” “unwind themselves,” and “adjust growing population.” There are also spelling errors, including “Additionallay” and “infact.” These do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Check common collocations and spelling, and choose wording that expresses your intended meaning directly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex forms, including a concession in “While some people believe…” and a conditional idea in the final sentence. The overall meaning is usually understandable, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “it will also detrimental” is missing a verb, while “the Government have to focus” has a subject–verb agreement problem. In “there are not spaces available nearby where the can play,” the clause has an incorrect article or pronoun and an unclear reference. The sentence beginning “If all the facilities will available” also has an incomplete verb construction. Review verb forms, agreement, and clause structure, then proofread each sentence for a complete and correctly linked verb phrase.
