Student answer (Band 6.0)
Increasing trend of migrating to urban cities has created a problem of scarcity of land. Hence, the effective approach to tackle this problem is to build tall buildings for residency. I strongly agree with the statement as tall apartments will provide accommodation for several people, while acquiring less space. Another reason is that it is more cost effective option for such urban locations.
To begin with, people from rural areas are migrating to cities in search of jobs and better opportunities. In addition, city's population is increasing drastically, resulting in difficulty in finding accommodation, higher rents and scarcity of land. These problems can be resolved by building tall apartments with many floors and flats in it, it can accommodate a large number of people in one building. For instance, in a population dense city like Delhi, with limited land and enourmus people building flats and appartments is more suitable approach to utlise land.
However, living in a individual house has its own amazing experience and benefits but its not the best approach for urban areas. In contrast, cost of housing in big cities is been a major problem from past few years. For example, in New york building a housing colony is impossible and so expensive. So for such big cities flats and appartments is more cost beneficial then building housing colonies.
In conclusion, adding more flats and appartments to the city will accommodate many people in one place, however living in a house is a diffrennt experience. In my opinion, the best approach to utilise the space for big cities is to build tall buildings.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that tall apartment buildings are an effective response to limited urban land, and you return to this view in the conclusion. You address the main issue with relevant reasons, including population growth, accommodation shortages and the cost of housing. The Delhi and New York examples help make the discussion concrete. However, some points are asserted rather than fully explained. For example, you say apartments are “more cost beneficial” but do not explain how construction or housing costs would be reduced, and the contrast with individual houses is only briefly developed. To strengthen the response, explain the practical benefits and limitations of high-rise housing in more detail and connect each example directly to your argument.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress from urban population pressures to the suitability and cost of apartment buildings, and signposts such as “To begin with,” “However” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. Some connections are less clear or mechanical, though. The second body paragraph begins with the benefits of individual houses, then shifts to housing costs without fully explaining the relationship between these points. In the first body paragraph, the sentence beginning “These problems can be resolved” runs two ideas together, making the progression harder to follow. Use clearer links between claims and explanations, and ensure each paragraph develops one central point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “scarcity of land,” “accommodation,” “population dense” and “utilise land.” These choices communicate the main ideas, and some topic-specific language helps the response feel appropriate to the task. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, such as “in a population dense city,” “more cost beneficial” and “housing colony.” Spelling errors, including “enourmus,” “appartments,” “utlise” and “diffrennt,” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling carefully. Replacing repeated references to “tall apartments” and “flats” with precise alternatives such as “high-rise housing” or “multi-storey residential buildings” would also improve flexibility.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast clause beginning “However” and a reason clause with “as.” The overall meaning remains understandable, but some grammatical errors occur in sentence construction, articles, agreement and verb forms. For example, “it is more cost effective option” needs an article, while “building flats … is more suitable approach” has article and agreement problems. In “it can accommodate a large number of people,” the comma joins two independent clauses, and “cost of housing … is been a major problem” uses an incorrect verb form. Practise checking each sentence for a complete structure, correct subject–verb agreement and appropriate articles. Breaking longer sentences into clearer units will help improve accuracy.
