Student answer (Band 6.0)
To construct more houses in large cities the best way is to build high-rise apartment blocks. I partially agree with this view because by this strategy more space is created to accomodate dense population. However, I believe that it also weakens the overall infrastructure of the building.
This plan may maximise limited space to cater more individuals and families within a single building. The primary reason is that increasing height of the apartment blocks will allow more buildings to be constructed in the similar way, thereby reducing the risk of housing crisis and overpopulated cities can be accomodated. As a consequence, enough urban houses can be build without compromising the surrounding ecosystem. For instance, in Chicago, a state in the USA, have tall buildings in order to accomodate more living and provide enough houses to dense population.
Although it creates more room in a congested and larger cities, I also believe that it weakens the structural integrity of the buildings. This is because expanding only the height of buildings will decreases the strength and durability of the houses. Additionally, it also affects the adequacy and sufficiency of the buildings due to lack of involvement of other perimeters such as width, length and basement. As a result, the overall infrastructure is affected which leads to the long term maintainance and redevelopment. For example, many high-rise hotels and residential complexes require constant maintainace and reconstruction after every other year due to lack of stability.
In conclusion, I partially agree on this stance because is a vital component in catering many people in larger cities that are often overpopulated. However, I also believe that this plan can negatively affect the structual integrity of buildings due to lack of involvement of other dimensions.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear from the introduction and conclusion: you partly support tall apartment blocks because they use space efficiently, while arguing that height can affect building stability. Both sides are relevant, and the Chicago example helps illustrate the housing point. However, some reasoning is under-developed or unclear. The claim that increasing building height allows “more buildings to be constructed” does not explain how height itself enables this, and the structural-integrity argument assumes that taller buildings are inherently weaker without supporting evidence. The point about width, length and basements also needs a clearer link to the question of providing enough homes. Develop each main idea with a more precise explanation and a convincing example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall arrangement: an introduction, one paragraph supporting high-rise construction, a contrasting paragraph, and a conclusion. Linking expressions such as “However,” “Additionally,” and “As a result” make the relationship between points easy to follow, and your position remains consistent. This meets the lower-band expectations and shows some features of stronger progression. At times, though, the links are mechanical or the reference is unclear: “This plan” and “it” do not always identify a specific idea, while “As a consequence” introduces a result that is not fully established. Improve cohesion by making each paragraph’s central claim explicit and ensuring that each sentence develops the one before it, rather than relying mainly on transition phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “congested,” “structural integrity,” “durability,” and “overpopulated,” and the meaning is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “cater to” and “redevelopment.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or imprecise: “accommodate dense population,” “other perimeters,” and “the overall infrastructure of the building” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling errors such as “maintainance,” “maintainace,” and “structual” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural combinations—for example, “accommodate a larger population” and “building dimensions”—and proofread spelling carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex structures, including clauses introduced by “because,” “although,” and “which,” and most of the argument remains understandable. Some grammatical errors occur, but they rarely prevent the reader from following your meaning. For example, “in Chicago … have tall buildings” lacks a clear subject and has incorrect agreement; “will decreases” uses the wrong verb form; and “enough urban houses can be build” has an incorrect passive form. There are also issues with articles and number, as in “a congested and larger cities.” Review subject–verb agreement, verb forms after modal verbs, passive constructions, and singular/plural agreement. More accurate control of these patterns would make your complex sentences clearer.
