Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that, in urban areas long apartment blocks are more appropriate for living rather than to construct homes. I am completely agree with this statement because building tall apartments are more convenient where individuals including workers, students and local can live under their own expenditure.

One the main reason is that, in a modern cities people from different areas come to fulfill their life purposes because they don't have much opportunity in their areas. In addition to, they choose to buy an apartment to save their money instead of rent a big house and as in a tall apartment, there is huge number of people lives with their family so it is easy for individuals because there is much more safety than living alone. For instance, residents can easily travel by giving the keys to the neighbors to look after their flat when they had to left for their job or schools. Daily interactions with people helps to adapt the environment more quickly and retired, children, unemployed persons can spend his quality of time with others.

Another reason is that, owner can get more profit by constructing a tall building apartment rather than homes because a large proportion of individuals choose this option. Morever, a owner can make more business in this way, he become more successful. As a result, apartments infrastructure enhance the beauty of larger cities. In addition more free space will left to plant greenfields.

In conclusion, although tall building have benefits and mostly people prefer to reside in them but it occupy a lot of space, most of people cut trees and construct the building there, which affects greenhouse systems. Government should gifted an apartments so that people can prevent from inflation.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is stated clearly at the start: you completely agree that tall apartments are appropriate in cities. You give relevant reasons, including affordability, safety through neighbours, and the possibility of preserving open space. However, the response only partially develops the task: the point about residents leaving keys with neighbours is explained, but the claims about owners making more profit and apartments improving city beauty are asserted rather than supported. The conclusion also introduces cutting trees and greenhouse effects, which is not clearly connected to your earlier argument, and the suggestion that governments should provide apartments is not explained. Develop fewer points with specific examples and make the conclusion reinforce your position consistently.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The body paragraphs generally group related reasons, and linking expressions such as “For instance,” “As a result,” and “In addition” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression is not always clear: the first body paragraph moves from migration and cost to safety, social interaction and the needs of several groups without fully connecting these points. Some transitions are mechanical or inaccurate, including “In addition to” and the repeated use of “In addition.” The conclusion introduces a new concern about trees and greenhouse systems rather than drawing together the main reasons. Use clearer topic sentences and make each paragraph develop one central argument in a logical sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “urban areas,” “residents,” “apartment,” “proportion,” and “inflation,” and you attempt to express ideas about affordability, safety and city planning. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate, sometimes making the intended meaning unclear. For example, “under their own expenditure” does not naturally express affordability, while “greenhouse systems” is unclear in the context of tree removal. There are also spelling and form errors such as “Morever” and “a owner.” Aim for more precise phrases and check common collocations. For instance, “affordable housing,” “high-rise apartment buildings,” and “urban green space” would communicate your ideas more naturally and accurately.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a reason-and-result structure and an example introduced with “For instance.” However, complex sentences are often faulty, and frequent errors in agreement, articles, verb forms and sentence construction can make the reader work to understand your meaning. Examples include “I am completely agree,” “a large proportion of individuals choose,” and “it occupy a lot of space.” The sentence beginning “In addition to, they choose…” also has an incomplete grammatical pattern, while “when they had to left” combines verb forms incorrectly. Practise building accurate sentences with one main clause and a clearly connected supporting clause, then check subject–verb agreement, articles and verb forms before adding further complexity.
