Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, the debate is in hot talk that tall apartments are the best way to provide sustainable homes to increasing population in cities. I strongly agree with the view that tall building apartment could be the best solution for various reasons.

The first main reason in its support is it will help with better traffic management and protecting the environment as well. One tall building can be home to hundreds of people, whereas if they live in small home instead, that is going to take a lot of area. That area saved by building such apartments blocks can be used for parks and plantation that can solve pollution issue in big cities. Such buildings structure also helps to separate commericial and residential areas more effectively that leads to better roads access management throughout the city. It can also help with saving area for public transportation and highways that ultimately helps with lower traffic congestion.

Another important reason is people living in such building can access all basic neccesities under one roof. They have the facilities that help people becoming more active and improving their lifestyle. For example, such apartments can have gym, pools, cafes at one place. Specific small commercial markets can be build near these high roof buildings, so a lot of people can get their daliy life shopping done nearby. On the other hand, with such trend of people moving to large cities for education and health purposes. It will be really challaging for goverment to plan cities with traditional home styles i.e single storey, double storey etc

In contrast, some people argue that maintaning all the standards for such tall buildings can really challenging and it can result in a disaster, where a lot famillies can get affected. For instance, if such building use bad quality material in its construction, a lower magnitude earthquake can be end to hundreds of people's life. Another example can be if a building don't have fire management system, it can be very dangerous. However, I believe goverment should take responsibilty in this, make very strict regulations and checks for such buildings.

To conclude, while some people have concern about this development, I strongly agree with the idea of tall building apartment block can be a great solution to provide sustainable homes in big cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction (“I strongly agree”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons: apartment blocks can use land efficiently, support transport and amenities, and accommodate urban growth. The examples of gyms, shops, earthquakes and fire safety help make the discussion concrete. This covers the task well, while some points are more fully explained than others. For instance, the link between tall buildings and “better roads access management” is asserted rather than clearly shown, and the claim that saved land can address pollution needs more explanation. The safety counterargument is relevant, and you respond with regulation, but this response could be developed further by explaining how effective oversight would reduce the risks.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two supporting paragraphs, a counterargument and response, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally have identifiable central purposes, and signposts such as “Another important reason,” “In contrast” and “To conclude” help readers follow the argument. The progression is coherent, though some connections are mechanical or unclear. In the first body paragraph, traffic, environmental benefits, land use and commercial-residential separation are grouped together without fully explaining how each point connects. The sentence beginning “On the other hand” does not clearly contrast with the preceding point, and its relationship to the argument is difficult to follow. Use more precise links between claims and examples, and make references such as “that area” and “such buildings” unmistakably clear.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use vocabulary relevant to urban housing, including “traffic congestion,” “residential areas,” “public transportation,” “earthquake” and “fire management system.” There are also attempts at more specific phrasing, such as “strict regulations and checks.” However, noticeable spelling, word-form and collocation problems limit precision and sometimes make the reader pause. Examples include “hot talk,” “commercialial,” “neccesities,” “daliy,” “challaging” and “famillies.” Some combinations are also unnatural, such as “tall building apartment” and “lower magnitude earthquake.” Aim to learn common collocations and check spelling and word forms carefully. More precise vocabulary would help express the environmental and planning arguments without relying on broad phrases such as “solve pollution issue.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including comparisons with “whereas,” conditional phrasing and clauses introduced by “that.” This gives the response some structural variety, and the main argument is generally understandable. However, some grammatical errors recur in sentence construction, agreement, articles and verb forms. For example, “tall building apartment could be” needs a plural or a different noun structure; “people living in such building can access” needs a plural noun; and “a building don’t have” has incorrect subject–verb agreement. The sentence beginning “On the other hand, with such trend” is incomplete, while “can really challenging” is missing a verb. Review sentence completeness, agreement and article use, then proofread punctuation and sentence boundaries.
