Student answer (Band 6.0)

The demand on residential space in urban areas is continuously increasing at this modern time. People think that the best solution for this issue is to build tall apartment blocks. Personally, I agree with the idea because it can house a lot of people while economising space. In addition, it can give a natural scenic view in a city.

The main advantage of building tall apartment blocks is it can house a lot of families without sacrificing a lot of space which can be used in building parks or additional roads in an urbanized area. With this arrangement, lagre cities will be more organized and more family friendly. A lot of people will have more comfortable place especially those who are working and studying. Aside from housing and additional space for public, high rise building can also serve as a landmark of one's area adding a natural scenic view in a city especially during the night and presenting it a city lights. This could also lead to popularization of a city that could help boost its tourism and economy.

Despite the advantages presented, building high-rise apartment could raise concerns in safety and environmental issues. High-rise building can add pollution thus, it could destroy the quality of air and water in the area.

In conclusion, building tall apartment blocks give more comfortable living space and it can serve as a natural landmark of one's place. raises concern in safety and environmental because of disturbance of natural paysage of one's place and additonal pollution due to people's usage and wastes.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you agree that tall apartment blocks can help meet housing demand, and you give relevant reasons, including accommodating many families while preserving land for parks and roads. You also acknowledge possible safety and environmental drawbacks, so the response addresses both the proposal and a counterpoint. However, the benefits receive much more explanation than the concerns, which are stated briefly without examples or clarification. The claim that high-rise buildings create a “natural scenic view” is also unclear and does not directly explain how they provide enough homes. Develop this point more precisely and support the environmental and safety concerns with specific examples to make the discussion more balanced and fully developed.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction states your view, the main body presents benefits and concerns, and a conclusion returns to your position. Linking phrases such as “In addition,” “Despite the advantages presented,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, the progression within the main body is sometimes difficult to follow because several different claims—housing capacity, public space, comfort, landmarks, tourism and the economy—are crowded together. The final paragraph is especially unclear: it combines a summary with a fragment-like sentence about safety and pollution. Organise each paragraph around a smaller number of connected points, and make the conclusion a complete, concise summary.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a reasonable range of topic-related vocabulary, including “residential space,” “urbanized area,” “high-rise,” “landmark,” and “tourism and economy.” These choices show an attempt to discuss the issue beyond basic terms. However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unclear, such as “natural scenic view,” “presenting it a city lights,” and “disturbance of natural paysage.” Spelling errors such as “lagre” and “additonal” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural combinations and check spelling carefully; for example, describe the visual effect as a city’s “skyline” rather than a “natural scenic view.” This would make your ideas more precise and easier to follow.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “space which can be used in building parks” and a contrast introduced by “Despite the advantages presented.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors affect clarity. For example, “The main advantage … is it can house” needs a clearer construction, such as “is that it can house,” while “A lot of people will have more comfortable place” is missing an article. The conclusion also contains an incomplete and poorly connected sentence: “raises concern in safety and environmental…” Work on complete sentence structure, articles, and agreement, and proofread punctuation so that each idea is expressed in a grammatically complete sentence.
