Student answer (Band 6.0)

In the modern time, the best method to provide maximum houses in big cities is to build tall apartment blocks. I agree with this viewpoint because it saves space in crowded areas and protects natural environment.

The major reason for my approval is less area requires for big buildings. This means that nowadays, people are moving towards city for more job oppporunities, better education, modern facilities and so on. So, the individuals will build their own houses because of that the city will run out of space. To save the valuable land tall aparments should be build as it will provide homes to thousand of families.Large flats will occupy less space as well as it provide modern amenities such as gyms, elevators, pools and so on. Thus, building upward is the best way to give everyone a home without neding more land.

Another major reason for my agreement is conserve the ecosystem. To elaborate, as individuals are building houses to live in city, it will destroy the natural habitat because people will cut down forests, farmland and also occupy the parks to build new houses. Furthermore, as individuals live far away from their homes they will have to drive more to reach there workplace. So, it will creates pollution in the air. There fore, building tall apartments will help to reduce the cutting off the green spaces and save the environment.

To conclude, i agree with this prespective that building vertical apartments is best way to provide enough homes in large cities because of preserve open spaces and minimise land consumption.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you agree that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes, and you give two relevant reasons—saving land and protecting the environment. The explanation that city growth creates pressure on available space is relevant, and you also connect outward expansion with habitat loss and pollution. This covers the task well, though some points are asserted rather than fully demonstrated. For example, the claim that tall flats provide homes to “thousand of families” would be stronger with a specific example or explanation of how this compares with low-rise housing. The environmental argument could also distinguish more clearly between the effects of building vertically and the effects of transport. Develop these links to make the support more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting separate reasons, and a conclusion that restates your view. The progression from limited urban land to environmental protection is easy to follow, and signposts such as “The major reason” and “To conclude” help identify the stages of the argument. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. In the first body paragraph, “So” introduces a consequence, but the link between people moving to cities and individuals building their own houses needs clearer explanation. The transport point in the second paragraph also shifts away from the main focus on apartment blocks. Use referencing and transitions more precisely, and make each sentence build directly on the paragraph’s central claim.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “natural habitat,” “valuable land,” “modern amenities,” and “pollution,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There are also attempts at less common phrasing, such as “minimise land consumption.” However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, limiting precision. For instance, “less area requires” and “conserve the ecosystem” do not express the intended meanings naturally, while “building upward” is repeated in similar forms. Spelling errors such as “oppporunities,” “aparments,” and “prespective” are noticeable and reduce control. Build a more accurate range of collocations for urban development and environmental impacts, and proofread spelling carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause beginning “because” and a conditional structure with “as.” The overall meaning is generally understandable, but grammatical control is inconsistent, especially in longer sentences. Examples include “less area requires,” “it will provide,” where the subject changes from plural “apartments,” and “it will creates pollution.” The sentence beginning “So, the individuals will build their own houses because of that…” also joins ideas awkwardly, and several sentences omit necessary articles or use incorrect verb forms. Work on subject–verb agreement, verb patterns, and sentence boundaries. More accurate control of these structures would make your argument clearer while retaining the range you are attempting.
