Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address both sides of the question and state a position with “I partially agree,” then conclude that tall buildings save land but may create risks. The points about accommodating many residents and using less ground space are relevant, as are your concerns about aviation safety and public spending. However, the position is not fully explained: the conclusion does not clarify whether apartment blocks are the best solution overall, and the government-funding point is not clearly connected to why tall buildings are less effective than alternatives. Several examples are also unclear or insufficiently developed, such as the claim that living in one building encourages people to become extroverts. Explain the comparison with other housing options and support each main reason more directly.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting tall buildings, a paragraph presenting drawbacks, and a conclusion. Signposts such as “To begin with,” “On the flip side,” and “To conclude” help identify the stages of the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is often difficult to follow because ideas are linked mechanically or their relationships are unclear. For example, the move from residents living together to becoming “a extrovert person” is abrupt, and the aviation point is not clearly connected to the wider question of housing provision. Full stops and commas are also frequently misplaced, interrupting the flow. Organise each paragraph around one clear claim, then explain and illustrate it before moving to the next point.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “permanent place,” “social mobility,” “infrastructure,” and “government funds,” and you attempt to express ideas about housing, land use, and public services. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the intended meaning difficult to understand. For instance, “network of airlines” does not clearly express the concern about aircraft and buildings, while “save the land” and “extra pressur on government funds” are not natural expressions in this context. Spelling errors such as “inviduals,” “destory,” and “hospitial” also reduce accuracy. Build a more precise set of housing and urban-planning terms, and check spelling and collocations when revising.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

You attempt some complex sentence forms, including clauses introduced by “although” and “as a result,” but control is limited and errors occur frequently. Problems with agreement and verb forms appear in examples such as “the tall buildings is,” “it can saves,” and “it encourage.” Articles and sentence construction are also unreliable, as in “a people who from another area,” while several fragments and run-on sentences make relationships between ideas unclear. Capitalisation and punctuation errors further affect sentence boundaries. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, especially subject–verb agreement, articles, and verb patterns, then combine them using subordinate clauses. Aim to make each sentence complete and punctuate it clearly.
