Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is quite often argued about the living facilities for people residing in large and busy cities. In some places, problem lies in overpopulation, price, area per square alloted for living, etc. To illustate this statement further, here is an overview essay.
In my opinion, i strongly agree with this argument that providing living for people in large cities can be helped by building tall and sturdy apartment blocks. Major cities check their soil quality before getting permission of building tall apartment blocks, sometimes upto 40 to 50 floors high. People often move to major cities from their hometown in search of good education, better paying job, pleasant lifestyle and overall getting settled in a stable way. One of the practical examples i have seen is in cities like Delhi or mumbai where they have special societies of residence with a group of 7 to 10 block of tall buildings, a park for children, outdoor gym, basketball courts and other conveniences for their residents. I found that people were quite comfortable and living a pleasant lifestyle there.
On the other hand, some people might disagree with this argument mainly for the reason of constant noise coming from neighbours, lack of personal privacy in some cases and much more. For instance, in some part in the US, we will find separate sale of properties which have 1 or 2 floors entirely for a consumer's need. They get their own parking garage, a good personal garden area and are also surrounded by similar type of houses in the neighborhood.
To summarise, although having a personal house has its own perks but with increase of population and other factors, i strongly support large cities to build tall apartment blocks to make living more convenient.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you strongly support tall apartment blocks, and you address the opposing view by mentioning noise, privacy and the advantages of houses. The examples of residential complexes in Delhi and Mumbai help make your support relevant, while the comparison with separate houses shows awareness of the alternative. This meets the task well, but the development is uneven: the benefits of apartment blocks are illustrated with several facilities, whereas you do not explain in much detail how building upwards provides enough homes or why it is the best solution compared with other approaches. The counterargument is also listed more than explored. Develop these points with clearer cause-and-effect reasoning and specific support.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph supporting apartment blocks, a paragraph presenting disadvantages of high-rise living, and a conclusion that restates your position. This gives the reader an overall coherent route through the argument. However, some linking is mechanical or imprecise. “To illustrate this statement further, here is an overview essay” does not introduce a specific idea, and “On the other hand” signals contrast even though the paragraph does not fully challenge your position. The conclusion’s “although” construction also makes the relationship between the two ideas awkward. Use topic sentences that state each paragraph’s purpose, and connect examples explicitly to the claim they support. Clearer referencing would also help readers follow what “they” refers to.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use enough vocabulary to discuss housing and urban life, including “overpopulation,” “personal privacy,” “residents,” and “conveniences.” The examples also show attempts to use topic-specific language rather than relying entirely on basic terms. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “living facilities,” “price, area per square alloted,” “providing living,” and “special societies of residence.” Spelling and capitalisation slips, including “illustate,” “upto,” and “mumbai,” further reduce control. These issues do not prevent the main message from being understood, but they make parts of the response less precise. Build a reliable set of housing-related collocations and check spelling and word forms during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and more complex sentences, including the concession in “although having a personal house has its own perks” and the relative clause “which have 1 or 2 floors.” Most ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors and awkward sentence patterns are noticeable. For example, “In some places, problem lies” is missing an article, and “a group of 7 to 10 block” has a number-agreement problem. The sentence beginning “People often move…” also shifts into an unclear construction with “and overall getting settled.” Capitalisation of “i” is inconsistent, and the final sentence’s “although…but” structure is not well controlled. Practise articles, plural agreement and complete parallel sentence structures while retaining your attempts at complex forms.
