Student answer (Band 6.0)
The best way to increase the occupancy of people and provide enough homes in the large cities is to build tall apartment blocks instead of traditional homes.
I partially agree with the given statment, as occupancy in the large cities is a major challenge and to overcome this tall blocks of appartments might be a good solution. Irrespective of the country large cities in the world create majority of the job opportunities but at the same time they also create such occupancy crises among the immigrants and students.
In many cities like Berlin due to less occupancy many students and working immigrants often face the housing issue and have to go through misserable times. Whereas on the other hand cities like Mumbai manage to handle such a huge number of crowd with the help of tall apartments namely "Towers". In Mumbai some towers do have 60 plus floors in it which genuinely resolves this occupancy issue at some extent.
But the cost also matters, not everyone can afford an apartment in such tower. The higher a tower the expensive is the apartment, some apartments in cities like Mumbai might cost you more than 3 crores which is a huge amount for middleclass family.
Also these towers are not that eye pleasing the way traditinal homes used to be. And this might change the aesthetic of the city completely. Some cities are known for the houses which they have for an instance Panji Goa is famous for the portuguese architechture and just to increase the occupancy building tall towers besides the historic architechture would be a blunder.
Thus, the aesthetic of the city, total population, history, and environmental hazards, everything should be taken in consideration before building such tall towers.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear: you partially agree that tall apartment blocks can help address housing shortages, while recognising affordability and heritage concerns. The response addresses the main question and gives relevant examples, including Mumbai’s high-rise buildings and Panaji’s Portuguese architecture. These examples help explain both the potential benefit and the drawbacks. However, some points are asserted rather than fully developed: for instance, the claim that taller towers are more expensive would be stronger with an explanation of why this limits the supply of affordable homes, and the environmental hazards mentioned in the conclusion are not discussed earlier. To strengthen the response, explain how high-rise construction compares with other housing approaches and develop each reason with clearer supporting detail. The position and relevant ideas are established, but their development is uneven.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5
The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, paragraphs presenting examples and disadvantages, and a concluding statement. The contrast between Mumbai and Berlin, followed by affordability and heritage concerns, gives the reader a general sense of direction. However, progression between ideas is not always smooth. The Berlin example is introduced through “less occupancy,” which appears to conflict with the housing shortage being discussed, and “Whereas on the other hand” combines two contrast markers unnecessarily. Some paragraphs also move quickly from one point to another without explaining their connection. Use clearer topic sentences and link each example directly to the argument it supports. A more focused conclusion that restates your position, rather than listing factors, would also improve the overall progression.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “housing issue,” “historic architecture,” “aesthetic,” and “environmental hazards,” which helps communicate the main ideas. There is also an attempt to use more specific language through references to “60 plus floors” and “middleclass family.” However, several inaccurate or unnatural choices reduce precision, such as “occupancy of people” for population density or housing demand, and “less occupancy” where the context suggests a shortage of housing. Spelling errors such as “statment,” “appartments,” and “architechture” are noticeable, while “crowd” is not the most suitable term for residents. Aim for accurate collocations and check spelling carefully; this would make your vocabulary more reliable and easier to follow.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the conditional comparison “The higher a tower the expensive is the apartment” and the relative clause “the houses which they have.” Most of the intended meaning remains understandable, but some sentence structures and punctuation are inaccurate. For example, “The higher a tower the expensive is the apartment” needs a correctly formed comparative structure, and “some apartments … might cost you more than 3 crores which is a huge amount” has an unclear clause connection. The opening sentence also uses an awkward grammatical pattern in “increase the occupancy of people.” Review comparative clauses, articles, and sentence boundaries, and proofread for missing commas or full stops. More accurate control of these structures would make your argument clearer.
