Student answer (Band 5.5)
Many people argues that the excellent way to provide homes in big urban areas is to develop tall building blocks. I agree with this provided solution, whereas some people gave another option to make more societies on empty lands and make better use of those places.
Making the buildings tallers to build more apartments and flats will help to make a better use of the land. More number of persons can live and make home in long developed buildings. Those building blocks may provide space to build other facilites such as shopping malls, offices, cinemas, and grocery stores altogether on the same area of land.
Converting empty lands into societies by removing natural growing trees, cutting mountains and effecting wild animal lives to make more homes is clearly not a better option. It will took more land while giving less effective use of the area. In a single story house in which a family of 4 to 6 person can live in can be converted into taller building where 9 more families make their homes in each appartment. Some points we need to focus on while developing taller buildings are that they need more safety measures, better structure to stays strong during natural disaster such as earthquake and thunderstorms with speedy winds.
Conclusion, taller buildings provide more space and facilites in short area but need proper structuring and good material during construction. On the other side make use to empty lands by removing jungles and make smaller buildings took equal space with providing a single family home.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
Your position is clear: you agree that tall apartment blocks are an effective way to provide homes, and you compare this with building on undeveloped land. The points about using less land, accommodating more families, and protecting trees and wildlife are relevant to the question. You also acknowledge a practical drawback by noting the need for safety measures and strong construction. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained: for example, the claim that a block can house nine additional families would be stronger with a clearer comparison or a specific example. The conclusion also introduces a comparison without fully resolving it. Develop the main reasons with more precise support and keep your position consistent throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central focus, moving from the land-saving benefits of high-rise housing to the environmental costs of expanding into undeveloped areas. Linking phrases such as “On the other side” and “In a single story house” help signal comparisons. However, some connections are awkward or unclear, particularly the opening sentence of the second body paragraph and the final contrast in the conclusion. The relationship between the safety concerns and the main argument could also be made more explicit. Use clearer topic sentences and connect each example directly to the point it supports, rather than relying on broad transition phrases.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “apartments,” “shopping malls,” “natural disaster,” and “wild animal lives,” and you attempt more specific terms such as “safety measures” and “structure.” This gives the response enough topic-related language to communicate its main ideas. However, word choice and collocation are often inaccurate or repetitive, which sometimes makes meaning less clear: “make a better use of the land,” “long developed buildings,” and “make more societies” are not natural expressions in this context. There are also spelling and word-form errors, including “facilites” and “tallers.” Build a bank of accurate housing and urban-planning collocations, and check spelling and word forms during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and more complex sentence forms, including a contrast with “whereas” and a relative clause beginning “in which.” The main message is generally understandable, but errors in agreement, verb forms, articles and sentence construction occur across the response. For instance, “Many people argues” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “It will took more land” uses an incorrect verb form. The sentence beginning “In a single story house in which…” is difficult to follow because its clause structure is incomplete and the comparison is not clearly formed. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and main verb, and review past and future verb forms, plural agreement and article use.
