Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, numerous individuals argue that, build tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide enough homes in urban areas. I strongly argee with this view because this should be best way to provide a large number houses in a small piece of land.

One view is that, build tall buildings especially in cities may have a positive impact because in a tall building have several flates that facilitate a large number of families in one place. Build tall apartment blocks in cities are most beneficial for workers the reason is that, most of the companies, and factories are located in cities, therefore workers may not need any transport cost for going to their work. Another major aspect of this is that, in tall buildings usually have excessive number of facilities such as, schools, parks, and gym, that facilities are place in one society.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You state a clear position in the opening, strongly agreeing that tall apartment blocks can provide many homes on limited land, and you give relevant supporting points about workers’ access to jobs and shared facilities. However, the response addresses the task only partially: these points are asserted rather than explained with specific examples, and there is no concluding paragraph to reinforce your view. The response contains 136 words, so it is 114 words below the required minimum; the eight words copied from the prompt are excluded from that count. This leaves your argument substantially underdeveloped. To strengthen it, explain how high-rise construction increases housing capacity and support each reason with a concrete example or detail.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introductory position is followed by a paragraph presenting reasons, and linking expressions such as “because,” “therefore,” and “Another major aspect” help signal relationships between ideas. However, the paragraph contains several points without a clear progression, and the response ends abruptly without a conclusion. Some links are also awkward or repetitive, particularly the repeated “that” constructions. Organise the body around one main reason at a time, explain each before moving to the next, and use clear referencing so readers can follow which facilities or benefits you mean. A brief concluding paragraph would give the response a more complete overall progression.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “urban areas,” “apartment blocks,” “families,” and “facilities,” and the main ideas are generally understandable. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which makes parts of the response less natural. For example, “flates” is a misspelling, “transport cost” is not the natural phrase in this context, and “excessive number of facilities” suggests an undesirable excess rather than a large provision. “Society” is also unclear when you appear to mean a residential community or complex. Build a more precise topic vocabulary and check spelling and collocations; this will help express your ideas clearly without relying on repeated general terms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt to connect ideas using subordinate clauses and cause-and-effect structures, as in “because this should be best way” and “therefore workers may not need…”. However, the range of sentence structures is limited, and attempts at longer sentences are often faulty. Examples include “build tall apartment blocks is,” where a gerund phrase is needed as the subject, and “in a tall building have several,” which lacks a clear subject. There are also recurring problems with articles, agreement, and plural forms, such as “a large number houses” and “that facilities are.” These errors sometimes make the relationships between ideas difficult to follow. Practise building accurate sentences with clear subjects and verbs, then add complex clauses once the basic structure is secure.
