Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays, there is a growing debate about a wether the better way to provide enough home in big cities is to build tall apartment blocks, In my opinion i agree with this idea.

Fisrtly, one major reson is haven't enough area for building more homes, this is because the large cities has so charged from where building, also has a lot of companys and supermaket, mall's and many things, for example NEW YORK city has a big company's brands and 5million people live there, as a result the large cities they haven't a large space.

Secondly, another important point is people can be save time and money on transportation, this is because when they lived in centre of cities their they don't need transports for going to the work or shoping or eating in resterants also they don't needed a driving a car many hours everydays for going to university studying or teaching, for instance studying in university at london and lived on town so far and woulto take a bus for 2hours, therefore the tall apartment is so effectively for many people.

in conclusion, i believe that better way for providing enough homes is building tall apartment blocks, this is mainly because people can be save time and money also for provide more house in small area.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a clear opinion in the introduction and conclusion, and both reasons—limited land in large cities and reduced travel time for residents—are relevant to the question. However, the response only partially develops the argument: the New York example is difficult to interpret, and the London university example is unclear, so neither strongly supports the point. You also do not consider whether tall blocks are the best way compared with alternatives. The response is 218 words, below the required 250, which limits the space available to explain and support your ideas. Develop each reason with a clear, specific example and explain why it shows that high-rise housing is the best solution.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs signalled by “Firstly” and “Secondly,” and a conclusion. This helps the reader identify your two main reasons and follow the overall direction. However, progression within the paragraphs is uneven, and several long sentences combine multiple points without clear links. For example, the first body paragraph moves from limited land to companies, supermarkets and New York, while the second shifts among work, shopping, restaurants and university travel. Connect each example directly to its main point, and divide these lists into clearer sentences. Some linking phrases, such as “this is because” and “as a result,” are repeated or do not clearly express the relationship between ideas.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “apartment blocks,” “transportation,” “large cities” and “university,” and the reader can generally identify your intended arguments. However, the range is limited and several word choices, collocations and spellings make parts difficult to understand. Phrases such as “the large cities has so charged from where building” and “the tall apartment is so effectively” do not communicate your meaning clearly. There are also repeated basic terms such as “people,” “cities” and “building.” Build a more precise vocabulary for housing and urban planning, and check spelling and natural word combinations. For example, use “limited land for development” and “high-rise housing can reduce commuting time.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including cause-and-effect structures with “because” and “as a result.” However, the range is limited, and errors are frequent, particularly in longer sentences, sometimes making the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “one major reson is haven't enough area,” “the large cities has,” and “people can be save time.” These show problems with sentence construction, subject–verb agreement and verb forms. Articles, plurals and punctuation also need attention; for instance, the opening sentence runs into the next clause with a comma. Practise building accurate sentences with a clear subject and verb, then add one supporting clause at a time. Proofread for agreement, tense and sentence boundaries.
