Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You address the topic by discussing benefits and risks of tall apartment blocks, and you give a personal view in the conclusion. However, the position is not consistent: the first body paragraph calls them the “best” way to provide homes, while the later paragraph and conclusion argue they should be avoided. The supporting points are also limited and under-developed; for example, the references to the US and China do not explain how apartment blocks have helped or provide a specific example. The response contains 220 words, so it is 30 words below the required minimum; 14 words copied from the task prompt were not counted. Develop your reasons and examples, and state a clear, consistent extent of agreement or disagreement.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for advantages and disadvantages, and a conclusion. Basic signposting such as “Firstly,” “Moreover,” and “In conclusion” helps readers identify the stages of the essay. However, progression is limited because the ideas within paragraphs are mostly listed rather than explained, and the conclusion does not resolve the opposing claims in the body. “As a result” introduces a repeated claim rather than a consequence supported by the preceding example. Some links are also unclear, such as “people will not take their comfortablity.” To improve, connect each reason to its explanation or example and use referencing and transitions to show how the points relate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a basic range of topic-related vocabulary, including “apartment blocks,” “housing,” “earthquake,” and “flood,” so the main subject is generally clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “play a crucial role.” However, vocabulary is repetitive, particularly the repeated use of “tall apartments” and “issue,” and several inaccurate word choices or forms make parts difficult to understand: “intrument,” “comfortablity,” and “mondatory.” Some collocations are unnatural, including “take their comfortablity” and “have a risk on tall apartment.” Build a wider set of accurate housing and urban-planning expressions, and check spelling and word forms so your intended meaning is clear.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You use mostly simple sentence patterns, with a few attempts to link clauses, such as “even if the small land” and “because they may affect negatively on our mental health.” These attempts show some range, but the complex structures are often faulty, and errors occur frequently enough to make reading less smooth. Examples include missing articles and prepositions in “Large cities face problem of homes” and “one the most dangers,” as well as agreement errors in “tall flats is.” Sentence punctuation and spacing are also inconsistent. Practise accurate article use, subject–verb agreement, and complete clause structures; then combine ideas with subordinate clauses only when you can control them reliably.
