Student answer (Band 6.5)

There is an ongoing debate about the best way to address housing problem in urban areas is to construct multistory apartments.I largely agree with the statement as it provides home to large number of families without using much land. However, tall apartments is not only a solutiong for housing crises in urban areas.

The most significant advantage of apartment is that it accommodate large number of people without using a huge amount of land. This is particularly important in large cities where land prices are touching all time high because of rapidly growing demand.Instead of constructing a house government and developers should plan effectively to build vertically to resolve housing crises in metrocities. For example, dense populated cities like Delhi and Mumbai do not have enough land to contruct houses instead, they are planing township with high-rise buildings to provide enough houses to the families. This allows large numbers of people to live near to their work, school, college and other public services.

However, relying solely on tall apartment building is not a complete solution and can create other problems as well. A large construction at a place can put considerable pressure on public services like roads, healthcare, public transport, water supply and schools. In addition, not everybody prefer to live in a high-rise some people people want privacy and prefer living in a house. Thus, government should also consider other options like medium rise or double story building also they can plan effectively to develop suburbs by providing better connectivety of public transportation.

To conclude, building tall apartments allows individuals to live close to their work and other public services like healthcare, schools and public trasnport. However, this can create pressure on public services therefore, goverment should plan on building suburbs by providing greater connectivity.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear: you largely support high-rise housing because it accommodates many families on limited land, while recognising that it is not a complete solution. You address both the benefits and drawbacks, and the examples of Delhi and Mumbai help make the discussion relevant. The point about pressure on roads, healthcare, transport, water and schools is also pertinent. However, some ideas are asserted rather than fully explained. For instance, the preference for privacy is mentioned but not developed, and the proposed alternatives of medium-rise buildings and suburbs receive little detail. To strengthen the response, explain how these options could provide homes while reducing the pressures you identify, and make the comparison with tall blocks more explicit.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your position, the body paragraphs present advantages and limitations, and the conclusion restates the main argument. Linking expressions such as “However,” “In addition,” and “To conclude” help signal the direction of the discussion. The progression is generally logical, but some connections are mechanical or unclear. In the final body paragraph, the move from public-service pressure to personal preference and then to suburban development could be linked more explicitly. The conclusion also repeats earlier points without clearly bringing the two sides together. Use referencing and transitions to show how each alternative responds to a specific drawback, and ensure sentence boundaries are clearly marked.

Lexical Resource: Band 6.0

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “high-rise buildings,” “public services,” “housing crises,” and “connectivity,” which allows you to discuss the issue clearly. There are also attempts at more specific language, such as “considerable pressure” and “rapidly growing demand.” However, some word choices and collocations are inaccurate or repetitive, including “provide home,” “a large construction at a place,” and repeated use of “housing crises.” Spelling errors such as “solutiong,” “contruct,” “planing,” and “trasnport” also reduce accuracy. Aim to use more natural collocations and check spelling carefully; this would make your vocabulary more precise and flexible without changing the ideas.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “cities where land prices are touching all time high” and a contrast structure beginning “However, relying solely on tall apartment building…”. Meaning is generally clear, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “apartment is that it accommodate” has problems with number and subject–verb agreement, while “not everybody prefer” and “tall apartments is” also show agreement errors. Articles and plurals are sometimes missing or inconsistent, as in “a large number” and “a high-rise.” Several sentences run together without appropriate punctuation, particularly in the introduction and conclusion. Review agreement, articles, and sentence boundaries, while continuing to practise complex structures.
