Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is usually considered that the best way to provide sufficient homes in large cities is to build Multi-story residential buildings. I strongly agree to this opinion, as having large cities with constant increase in the population often leads to people struggling to find homes to live in.

In Metropolis cities, which is a vital contributor of the state's economy, there are constantly existing problems. One of it being overcrowding and over-population, as large cities provides various job opportunities in various sectors. People from different rural areas dream to score great in their academics just in hopes to give their respective families a bright future in a developed city. And with such passionate candidates moving to a metropolis city or any large city of that sort, comes with the issue of housing. Therefore, one good way of preventing these problems is building tall apartent blocks.

These are affordable, also occupies less land space making it a good option for building other neccesary venues. The population can now easily provide themselves with a satisfying home, with affordable prices and privacy. Other options, such as dormitory and hostles might provide you a place to live in, for even more affordable cost but then one has to compromise with their privacy, which is not something a majority of the population are willing to sacrifice.

In conclusion, i stronly agree and would suggest that the significant way of providing homes in large cities would be by building tall apartment blocks, as it is more private and comfortable for every human, though it is a bit more expensive than a dormitory or hostle, it comes with its own fruitfulness. A place to which people can refer to, as their home.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: “I strongly agree,” and the conclusion maintains this view. You give relevant reasons, particularly that apartment blocks use less land and can provide homes at affordable prices, and you compare them with dormitories and hostels. However, the response only partly develops the argument. The discussion of people moving from rural areas focuses more on why cities become crowded than on why tall blocks are the best solution. The claim that residents can obtain “privacy” is also asserted rather than explained, and the comparison with shared accommodation could be more specific. To strengthen the response, explain how high-rise housing accommodates more households on limited urban land and support this with a concrete example or clearer reasoning.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and the main position is easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “Therefore,” “Other options,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, progression within the first body paragraph is uneven: the discussion moves from city economies to job opportunities, rural students and housing without clearly connecting each point to the proposed solution. Some references are also unclear, as in “These are affordable,” where the reader must infer that “these” means apartment blocks. The conclusion adds a fragment-like final sentence, “A place to which people can refer to, as their home,” rather than smoothly completing the summary. Use clearer topic sentences and explicit links between causes, evidence and your recommendation.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “overcrowding,” “population,” “job opportunities,” “privacy” and “land space,” so the reader can understand the central issue. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “sufficient homes” and “significant way.” However, the range is limited in places, and several choices or collocations are inaccurate or awkward: “score great in their academics,” “comes with the issue of housing,” and “its own fruitfulness” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling errors such as “apartent,” “neccesary,” “stronly” and “hostle” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise, natural combinations—for example, describe people as seeking better educational opportunities and say that apartment blocks make efficient use of urban land.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a relative clause in “Metropolis cities, which is a vital contributor…” and a contrast introduced by “though.” This shows some range, but control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to follow. For example, “large cities provides” has subject–verb disagreement, while “One of it being overcrowding” is an incomplete construction. The sentence beginning “And with such passionate candidates…” also lacks a clear grammatical connection to its main clause. There are further issues with articles, plurals and punctuation, including “for even more affordable cost” and the comma splice in the final conclusion. Practise building complete sentences around each main idea and checking agreement and sentence boundaries.
