Student answer (Band 5.5)

It is often argued that the best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks. Some people believe that if there are large buildings in cities, people get enough homes in cities. I largely agree with this view.

In my opinion everyone want to spend their life in cities beacuse urban areas contain all basic facilities and provide a easy life. Everyone has desire to live in city but the property cost is tooo much thats why tall building are important. For example, If there were tall buildings in cities they can give enough home to people and they can provide maximum facilities to everyone and a normal middle class man can afford a small home in building rather than a large home in society.

One more advantage is that People from rural areas get convinience by living in cities. Many people from rural areas face difficulty in teaching their children and they dont have basic health facility, whereas if they live in cities they can get all facilities and their life become easy. A great example of this is that if a person in rural area is not well they have to come to city for treatment but if they are living in building in city they can get all facilities like school , medical center and shopping malls.

One drawback of large buildings is that they gave less space to homes and people have to live in 1 or 2 bedroom apartment with there large families. Although these apartments are cheaper than big homes but they also have less space.

In conclusion, I agree with that view that in cities large buildings should be constructed and people should provide with homes in cities rather than rural areas so they can spend good lives with all facilities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you “largely agree” that tall apartment blocks can help provide homes, and you give relevant reasons, including high property costs and access to urban services. You also acknowledge a drawback—the limited space in one- or two-bedroom apartments—which shows some consideration of the issue. However, the response only partly develops the task: the claim that a middle-class person can afford an apartment is asserted rather than supported, and the rural-services discussion focuses more on why people move to cities than on whether tall blocks are the best way to house them. Explain why this approach is preferable to alternatives, such as expanding suburbs, and develop your examples more specifically to make the argument more complete.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two supporting paragraphs, a drawback, and a conclusion. Paragraphs generally have a central topic, and connectors such as “For example,” “whereas,” and “In conclusion” help signal relationships. However, progression is sometimes repetitive: the first two body paragraphs both emphasise the facilities available in cities, while the link between rural residents’ needs and tall apartment blocks is not always clear. Some transitions are mechanical, and references such as “they” in “they can give enough home” leave the subject unclear. Develop each paragraph around a distinct reason and use clearer links between the point, explanation, and example to create a more consistent line of argument.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “property cost,” “tall buildings,” “rural areas,” and “health facility.” However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “cities,” “facilities,” and “people.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems, such as “beacuse,” “convinience,” “tooo,” and “homes in building,” which make the writing less precise. Some combinations are unnatural, for example “spend good lives” and “get all facilities.” Build a wider set of accurate housing and urban-planning expressions, and check spelling and collocations. More precise wording would help distinguish the benefits of high-density housing from the general advantages of city life.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt some complex sentences, including the contrast beginning “Although these apartments are cheaper” and the clause with “whereas,” so the response is not limited entirely to short statements. However, the range remains narrow, and errors occur frequently in basic sentence patterns. Examples include “everyone want” instead of subject–verb agreement, “a easy life” instead of the correct article, and “people should provide with homes,” which is missing a clear passive construction. There are also punctuation and sentence-boundary problems, such as the missing space after “blocks” and inconsistent capitalisation after commas. Practise accurate simple sentences first, then extend them with subordinate clauses; carefully check agreement, articles, pronouns, and punctuation.
