Student answer (Band 6.0)
In recent years, many people move to large cities for education, employment opportunities, good healthcare systems, and better lifestyles. as a result, the demand for housing is increasing rapidly. some individuals believe that building tall apartment blocks is the best way to provide enough homes in large cities, i strongly agree with this statement. in this essay, i will explain why i agree with suitable ideas.
To begin with, building tall apartment blocks is an effective way to use limited land. in big cities, land is very expensive, and there is not enough space to construct individual houses for everyone. by constructing high-rise buildings, many families can live in the same area. for example, major cities such as newyork london, apartment buildings provide homes for millions people. as a result, this approach reduce the housing sortage and make better use of available land.
moreover, sky towers can provide several facilities in one place. many modern apartments include parking areas, lifts, security systems, playgrounds for children and other useful facilities. these features can make life more convenient for residents. furthermore, constructing apartment buildings near public transport, schools and hospitals can help people save their time and money on travelling. therefore, high buildings can be a practical solution for people who work in busy cities.
however, governments should ensure that these buildings are safe and properly maintained. if too many apartments are constructed without proper planning, cities may experiance traffic congestion, water shortages and pressure on electricity supplies. therefore. authorities should develop suitable roads, drainage systems and other facilities alonside new buildings.
in conclusion, i completly agree that building tall apartemt blocks is one of the best ways to provide sufficient housing in big cities. they save land, accomodate more people and offer more facilities. however, proper planning and infracture are essential to make this approach successful.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction (“I strongly agree”) and remains consistent in the conclusion. You address the central question with relevant reasons: high-rise buildings use scarce urban land efficiently, can accommodate many families, and may offer convenient facilities. The example of major cities also supports your point, although it is broad rather than specific. The safety and infrastructure paragraph adds a useful qualification, but it focuses more on conditions for successful construction than on comparing tall blocks with other ways of providing homes. Some points, such as how facilities directly improve housing provision, would benefit from fuller explanation and a concrete example. The response covers the task well overall; more precise support and development would make the argument more complete.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two paragraphs supporting high-rise housing, a paragraph on planning concerns, and a conclusion. Ideas generally progress logically, and linking expressions such as “To begin with,” “Moreover,” and “However” help signal the stages of the argument. The conclusion also returns to the stated position. At times, though, these transitions feel formulaic, and some links between claims could be made more explicit—for example, the connection between nearby services and the claim that high buildings are a practical housing solution. The list of facilities is clear but could be integrated more smoothly into the reasoning. More varied referencing and transitions, alongside clearer links between examples and claims, would strengthen the flow.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use a relevant range of vocabulary for the topic, including “limited land,” “high-rise buildings,” “security systems,” “traffic congestion,” and “water shortages.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and there are attempts at more specific language such as “properly maintained.” However, noticeable spelling errors—including “sortage,” “experiance,” “completly,” and “infracture”—reduce accuracy. Some expressions are also imprecise or unnatural: “sky towers” is not the usual term here, and “save their time” would be more naturally expressed as “save time.” The range is adequate for the task, but more accurate spelling, collocation, and word choice are needed to show greater flexibility and precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional and subordinate clauses: “If too many apartments are constructed without proper planning…” and “constructing apartment buildings near public transport… can help people…”. Most sentences communicate their meaning, but some grammatical errors remain. For example, “many people move” would fit the opening time frame better as “many people are moving,” and “this approach reduce” needs subject–verb agreement (“reduces”). In “homes for millions people,” a determiner is missing (“millions of people”), while “therefore.” incorrectly separates a transition with a full stop. Capitalisation at sentence beginnings and for “I” is also inconsistent. Greater control of verb forms, agreement, articles, and punctuation would improve accuracy.
