Student answer (Band 5.0)
If we talk about giving homes in large city then in my opinion, the best possible way to tackle that is building tall apartment blocks because it consumes less space rather than building a single home for every person. A single person can take care of a apartment easily even if its a 2 bedroom apartment along with kitchen and bathroom and if its a family of 5 to 6 persons then it can also be easily manageable by creating extra spaces for children or on room for children and one for the parents. Another Advantage of tall apartment is that friendly environment its like a single multistory home where every family is living seperately in his own apartment. There are lesser security issues than than living in a seperate home where you even dont know your neighbours. Apart from that if there is any issue in the building then its not a problem of a single person, its the problem of every single person who is living in the building and in this way bond becomes even stronger when they solve their problem. Everyone think it like their home and due to majority of people the issue is easily resolved. Besides that if the family is larger they can take 2 different apartments, in this way they can easily live there near their loved ones instead of going somewhere else. There is alot of unity in the people who are living in the apartments rather than the people who are living in their seperate houses far away from their loved ones.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5
Your position is clear: you support tall apartment blocks because they use less space, and you add points about security, community support and keeping relatives nearby. These are relevant reasons, so the response addresses the central question. However, the discussion is only partly developed. For example, the claim that apartments have fewer security issues is not explained with a specific comparison or example, and the community-bond point is repeated rather than extended. The response also focuses mainly on social benefits, with little consideration of whether tall blocks are the best way to provide enough homes compared with other approaches. Develop each main reason with a clear explanation or example, and make the scope of your agreement more explicit.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0
The ideas are generally related to your position, and linking expressions such as “Apart from that,” “Besides that” and “in this way” help show addition and result. However, the response is presented as one long paragraph, so the reader has little visual guidance through the argument. There is also limited progression: several points about unity, shared problems and living near loved ones overlap, while the main argument about saving space is not developed into a separate stage. Some links are repetitive or unclear, such as “in this way” appearing for different relationships between ideas. Organise the essay into an introduction, focused body paragraphs and a conclusion, with each paragraph developing one distinct reason.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the main ideas, including “tall apartment blocks,” “security issues,” “neighbours” and “unity.” However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “single,” “people,” “problem” and “living.” Some choices are awkward or imprecise, such as “giving homes,” “friendly environment” and “extra spaces for children,” which make parts of the argument less natural. Spelling errors, including “seperately,” “alot” and “neighbours” (if using consistent British spelling, this last form is correct), also affect accuracy. Build a more precise range for housing and urban planning, and check spelling and collocations during revision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt some longer sentences using clauses and conditionals, for example, “if there is any issue in the building then…” and “if the family is larger…”. This shows an effort to connect ideas, but the range is limited and many sentences contain errors that make reading less smooth. Examples include “in large city,” “a apartment,” “its a 2 bedroom apartment,” and “Everyone think it like their home,” which involve article use, agreement and sentence construction. Several sentences also run on, with multiple ideas joined by “and” without clear punctuation. Practise accurate articles and subject–verb agreement, and divide long sentences into shorter units. Then add a wider variety of controlled complex structures.
