Student answer (Band 6.0)

Larger cities might face some problems of accommodating the population and building tall apartments is one of a useful solution because it takes limited space and taller building can accommodate many people than houses build on land. However, i slightly disagree with the idea of building tall building because it also has many drawbacks than significance for individuals.

Building tall apartments is a practical solution to accommodate the growing population in large cities. It can provide house to many families in limited space and everybody might be able to find place according to their affordability and convience. It is also helpful for the government to utilize urban land for other public projects, for instance, utilizing free land for public parks.

Even though, it is good idea to provide residents with manage population of big cities. But it can significantly affect the environment. Building a tall apartments can block the sunlight and air to reach many houses in apartment which could possibly affect residents physical health. For example, not receiving suitable amount of sunlight could contribute to vitamin D deficiency which is necessary for the bones and this might contribute to further health issues in future.

From my personal experience, growing up in apartment house, we used to face lot of management issues which often ended up with dispute with neighbors and other residents. For instance, water supply disruption and not following the rules of throwing trash properly and many more.

In my conclusion, i believe the disadvantages of a building a tall apartments might overweigh the advantages for individuals, regarding the health and social issues of many.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you acknowledge that tall apartments use limited urban space, but ultimately disagree because of health and social drawbacks. This addresses the question and gives relevant reasons, including sunlight and air access, vitamin D, and shared-building disputes. The example about public parks also supports the benefit you recognise. However, the advantages are developed less fully than the disadvantages, and the final point about water supply and rubbish rules is asserted rather than explained in detail. To strengthen the response, compare the benefits and drawbacks more directly and explain why the drawbacks outweigh the housing capacity gained. A further relevant example or a clearer explanation of how these problems affect residents would make the argument more convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, separate paragraphs discuss benefits and drawbacks, and a conclusion restates your position. The progression from land efficiency to environmental and social concerns is easy to follow. You also use examples to connect claims with consequences. However, some links are mechanical or awkward, such as “Even though” at the start of a sentence followed by “But,” which creates an incomplete contrast structure. The paragraph about apartment management introduces several problems but does not clearly connect them back to the central comparison. Use more precise transitions and references, and make each paragraph’s main point explicit before developing its example.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “accommodating the population,” “utilize urban land,” “public parks,” and “vitamin D deficiency.” These choices help communicate both practical and health-related arguments. However, word choice and collocation are sometimes inaccurate or repetitive: “provide house,” “manage population,” and “overweigh the advantages” do not express the intended meanings naturally. There are also spelling errors such as “convience,” and repeated use of “building” and “many.” Aim for more precise collocations and vary key terms—for example, refer to “housing” or “residential buildings” where appropriate. Proofreading spelling and checking phrases in context would make your vocabulary more natural and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which is necessary for the bones” and conditional language such as “could possibly affect.” The main ideas remain understandable, but some grammatical errors recur. Examples include “taller building can accommodate,” where the noun needs plural agreement, and “a building tall apartments,” where the article and noun structure are faulty. The sentence beginning “Even though” is also incomplete when followed by a separate “But” clause. Capitalise “I,” and check articles, plurals, and sentence boundaries. Building on your attempts at subordination while ensuring each sentence has a complete, correctly formed main clause would improve accuracy.
