Student answer (Band 6.0)

Building tall apartment blocks can be an effective way to provide housing in large cities. This approach, if implemented in large cities, can provide shelter to many people. From my point of view, tall buildings should be established in crowded areas to save land and to utilise it for different purposes, such as parks, educational institutions, and parking lots and this approach reduces costs also.

In large cities, searching for a home is the toughest part, and to facilitate people in this situation, developing a society where people live in apartments is an effective way. On average, in an area of 3- 4 canals, a large number of people can be accommodated in an apartment system. The system also costs less than buying and renting a house. For instance, an apartment is a more reliable option for middle-class people, where they can live with having availibilty to basic facilities.

Additionally, the building usually provides safety to its residents by installing cameras and security guards on duty for 24 hrs. Tall building plans also leave more space for other activities and facilities and meet the needs of people living in a crowded city, such as having playgrounds for children and a large parking area and an educational institute near apartments.

To provide convenience to the population, more such schemes should be introduced so that they can find their home and shelter in an easy and affordable way. This also lets other constructions follow in the area because it does not take up a large space.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you support tall apartment blocks as a way to house people in crowded cities, and you give relevant reasons, including saving land, affordability, security and access to facilities. The examples of playgrounds, parking and educational institutions help connect the proposal to urban needs. However, some points are asserted rather than explained. For example, the claim that apartments “costs less than buying and renting a house” is unclear, and the reference to “3–4 canals” is not explained for readers unfamiliar with that measure. The response also gives little consideration to possible limitations or why this is the best approach compared with alternatives. Develop the main reasons with clearer evidence and explain the extent of your agreement more fully.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a coherent overall structure: it introduces your view, develops supporting reasons in two body paragraphs, and ends with a recommendation. Linking expressions such as “Additionally” and “For instance” help signal relationships between ideas. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes loose: the discussion moves from affordability to security and then to facilities without always showing how each point supports the central argument. Some connections are also repetitive, particularly the repeated references to crowded cities, space and facilities. The final sentence about allowing “other constructions” to follow is not clearly connected to the preceding point. Use clearer topic sentences and explain the link between each example and your claim; this would make the cohesion less mechanical and the argument easier to follow.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “accommodated,” “residents,” “security guards,” “crowded city” and “educational institutions.” These choices make the subject clear, and some less common terms are attempted. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or unnatural, such as “developing a society” for creating a residential community, “the system also costs less,” and “find their home and shelter.” “Availibilty” is also misspelled, and “canals” may be unclear to an international reader in this context. These issues do not prevent understanding, but they limit precision and naturalness. Aim for more exact housing-related phrasing, check spelling carefully, and avoid repeating general terms such as “facilities” when a specific example would be clearer.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including the conditional opening “if implemented in large cities” and clauses introduced by “where” and “so that.” Most ideas remain understandable, and errors do not generally obstruct communication. Some sentences, however, are long and loosely joined, especially the opening paragraph’s final sentence, where several purposes and a cost claim are linked together. There are also some grammatical inaccuracies, such as “The system also costs less than buying and renting a house,” which compares unlike structures, and “where they can live with having” in the example sentence. Punctuation around long lists and clauses could be more controlled. Break complex ideas into clearer sentences and check that each clause has a complete, logically matched structure.
