Student answer (Band 5.5)

In this modern era, there are mostly constructing of tall buildings in large cities. Some individuals argue that more homes in large cities is the best way to build tall apartment block. I slightly agree with this statement due to there are numerous benefits of tall aprtment blocks.

On the one hand, there are several advantagous to build tall apartment buildings. Firstly, there are more people live in a small area. It can be seen that tall buildings cover lower space at the ground, so many blocks are build one to another. For instance, burj khalifa is a tallest building in this world additionally there almost one hundred floors of this building. So, thousand of people living there very easily. The second benefit of tall buildings are more facilities there like good parking space and also the facility of a lift. Addionally, there is a beautiful view from the tallest blocks, so many people enjoy alot of time there at terrase. Therefore, it is evident that this points strongly supports my opinion.

On the other hand. there are also drawbacks to build tall apartment blocks. As we know, thousand of people living in a apartment, so there are more chancing of owercrowding there. Secondly, the apartment cost an arm and a leg. So, there are many expences of living in a apartment such monthly bills and also different taxes.

To draw the conclusion, build tall apartments blocks is a good way to provide enough homes. This development has both benefits and drawbacks. From my opinion, it has numerous benefits to build tall blocks. There are alot of individuals living in the tall apartment in a small area.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is that you slightly agree, and you give relevant reasons, including efficient use of ground space and access to facilities. The Burj Khalifa example also supports the general point that tall buildings can accommodate many residents. However, the response only partially develops the argument: the example does not explain how such buildings provide enough affordable homes, and the claims about parking, lifts and views are not clearly linked to the housing shortage. The drawbacks paragraph mentions overcrowding and expense, but does not explain how these affect your overall judgement or compare them with the benefits. To strengthen the response, explain the key reasons in more depth and make your degree of agreement clear throughout.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting opposing points, and a conclusion. Sequencing words such as “Firstly,” “The second benefit,” and “On the other hand” help readers follow the main stages. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes mechanical, and some links between claims are unclear. For example, the Burj Khalifa example is followed by a claim about residents without explaining the connection, while the conclusion largely repeats the introduction rather than drawing together the discussion. The phrase “On the other hand.” is also punctuated as a sentence fragment. Use linking expressions more selectively and add clear explanations that show how each example supports the paragraph’s main idea.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “tall apartment blocks,” “overcrowding,” “parking space,” and “monthly bills,” so the reader can understand the subject. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors make the writing less natural. Examples include “there are several advantagous,” “more chancing of owercrowding,” and “apartment cost an arm and a leg”; the last expression is informal for this essay. Repetition of “tall buildings” and “benefits” also limits variety. Aim to use accurate phrases such as “accommodate more residents,” “risk of overcrowding,” and “housing costs,” and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more extended sentences, using structures such as “so many blocks are build one to another” and “there are also drawbacks to build tall apartment blocks.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in verb forms, agreement, articles and sentence construction sometimes make the reader pause. For example, “there are more people live in a small area” needs a grammatical link between the clauses, while “thousand of people living there” lacks a finite verb and has an incorrect plural form. There are also errors in “the second benefit … are” and “a apartment.” Practise building accurate subject–verb sentences first, then extend them with subordinate clauses; check articles and verb forms during proofreading.
