Student answer (Band 6.0)

Provision of maximum homes to the people of urban area has become a major topic of discussion in recent times, and it is often argued that tall building appartments can be contructed in order to promote home ownership. I completely agree with this statement, because tall apartment blocks can acommodate maximum number of people due to their infrastructure and design, while building separate home for each family will increase the cost of living and make city life more compact.

On the one hand, the primary reason for my view is that urban areas are already compact and over-populated. Alot of projects like new roads development, educational and hospital building constructions are already ongoing in city life. Introducing new housing schemes or designating areas specifically for new housing society developments will reduce the greener space and make urban life more congested. Cost of living in urban area is already high and in that case, people will never be able to purchase new homes for themselves as they hardly make their ends meet.

On the other hand, another significant factor is that apartment blocks can be constructed on the coutryside which will make urban areas look spacious. Moreover, The construction cost on countryside will be lower and therefore the apartments will be offered to people at considerably low cost. People will be able to purchase an apartment and have home ownership easily. This will be bring sense of satisfaction and community among people specially who are claustrophobic, as they will be able to live together in spacious apartments as compared to small and compact houses in cities. For instance, In pakistan, High rise building apartments can accomodate 50 families at one time with provision of full security and basic necessities like electricity , gas and water supply.

In conclusion,I strongly agree that building tall apartments block is highly beneficial to provide people with their homes because these apartments are not only affordable but are also equipped with basic facilities. Therefore, It is essential to construct more building blocks in the countryside to accomodate maximum people and provide them home ownership rather than developing housing societies which will make cities more corwded and compact.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction to the conclusion: you strongly support tall apartment blocks, and you give relevant reasons about accommodating more residents and reducing pressure on urban land. The Pakistan example also helps make the argument more concrete. However, some parts of the reasoning are not fully clear or developed. For example, you first discuss building homes in cities, then argue that apartment blocks should be built in the countryside; explain how this still meets the need for homes in large cities, perhaps through transport and access to jobs. The point about claustrophobic residents and community is also asserted rather than explained. More precise development of these ideas would make the response more complete and convincing.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. The contrastive opening phrases “On the one hand” and “On the other hand” help signal the paragraph roles, and examples generally follow the claims they support. Some connections, however, feel mechanical or unclear. The shift from urban overcrowding to constructing apartments in the countryside is not sufficiently bridged, and “This will be bring sense of satisfaction” does not clearly show how the previous point leads to the next. Improve progression by linking each claim explicitly to the question and using clearer references, while varying transitions rather than relying mainly on formulaic signposting.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “over-populated,” “housing schemes,” “cost of living,” “home ownership,” and “basic necessities.” These choices show an attempt to discuss housing and urban development beyond very basic terms. However, inaccurate spelling and word choice are noticeable, and several collocations sound unnatural, such as “promote home ownership,” “new roads development,” and “building blocks” where “apartment blocks” would be clearer. Errors such as “appartments,” “contructed,” “accomodate,” and “corwded” also reduce the impression of control. Aim for accurate, natural combinations and proofread spelling; a more precise range would help express distinctions such as housing density, affordability, and access to services.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “while,” and “as,” and your main meaning is generally understandable. Some grammatical errors remain, particularly in verb forms, articles, agreement, and sentence boundaries. For example, “This will be bring” has an incorrect verb construction, while “building tall apartments block is” has a number-agreement problem. In “people will never be able to purchase new homes … as they hardly make their ends meet,” the sentence is understandable but would benefit from more controlled phrasing and punctuation. There are also missing spaces after full stops and inconsistent capitalisation. Practise checking each sentence for a clear subject and correctly formed verb, while retaining your attempts at complex structures.
