Student answer (Band 5.0)

Societies aroung the world experienced a significant growth in population over the last few decades. The sudden change required societies to provide enough homes for the ongrowing population. Some argue that the best option to provide enoguh homes in large cities is to build tall apratment blocks, while other express thier concern on the rate of usage of local resources. I believe tall building might help solve the overpopulation crisis and provide opportunities to achieve success in life.

Tall apartment blocks provides the opportunity to house people moving into large cities. Lots of people move into large cities for better opportunities such as jobs,or universities. Moreover, tall apartment buildings help solve the overpopulation crisis. The rate of people being born exceeds the death rates, causing widespread concern in housing.

Some may argue that we must face the underlying issue of overpopulation by raising awareness on how overpopulation might affect our local resources and our quality of life such as lots of traffic, instead of encouraging them by providing more space. I agree to some extent. However, change takes time and until people take action and demand on housing decrease, we must provide space for those who require it. Therefore, tall apartment building block seems to be a suitable solution for now.

In conclusion, due to the high demad in housing in large cities, provideing homes through tall apartement buildings seem a plausible solution for until even though other may want to

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You take a position that tall apartment buildings can help meet housing demand, and you acknowledge a counterargument about pressure on resources. This is relevant to the question, but the discussion remains limited: the benefits are asserted rather than illustrated with a specific example, and the concern about overpopulation is not clearly connected to whether high-rise construction is the best solution. Your conclusion is unfinished, so it does not fully restate your view. The response also contains 233 words, which is 17 words below the required minimum; the eight words copied from the prompt are not included in that count. Develop each main point with explanation or an example, and complete the conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, and linking expressions such as “Moreover,” “However” and “Therefore” help show relationships between ideas. The overall progression is only partly clear, though: the first body paragraph moves from migration to birth and death rates without explaining how these points support the case for tall buildings. The counterargument paragraph is more logically connected, but “them” in “instead of encouraging them” has an unclear reference. The final sentence breaks off, leaving the essay without a complete ending. Organise each paragraph around one main point, use clear references, and ensure the conclusion is finished.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “overpopulation crisis,” “local resources,” “housing” and “opportunities,” which allows the reader to understand the main subject. However, the range is limited and several spelling and word-choice errors are noticeable, including “aroung,” “ongrowing,” “enoguh,” “apratment” and “demad.” Some phrases are also imprecise or unnatural, such as “rate of usage of local resources” and “demand on housing decrease.” These errors sometimes make the reader pause, even though the intended meaning is generally recoverable. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for housing and urban development; more precise vocabulary would also help distinguish housing demand from population growth.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a concession structure beginning “Some may argue…” and a sentence with “until,” so there is some variety. However, the range is limited, and errors occur frequently enough to affect clarity. For example, “Tall apartment blocks provides” has subject–verb disagreement, while “other express thier concern” has an incorrect plural construction. The final sentence, “due to the high demad … provideing homes … seem a plausible solution,” is incomplete and contains problems with sentence structure and agreement. Review agreement, sentence completion and punctuation, and use shorter, accurate sentences before adding more complex forms.
