Student answer (Band 6.0)
The population of the world is growing and people are migrating towards the urban region in search of a better life. To accomodate the growing population, people believe high rise apartments are the best option in compairson to seperate housings. I strongly agree with the statement as apartments are a more efficient option with more benefits for both the people and the enviroment.
The increasing population means more people to provide facilities for; from housing to food, to water and electricity. This causes an increased burden on the governement and more land will be needed to accomodate these people. Such practices are not favourable as land is scarce and can only accomodate one house at a time. This is when apartment building comes into practice, they are able to provide all the above facilities with little use of land to hundereds of families. For instance, HongKong is reported to have the highest number of high rise apartment buildings due to increasing population and limited area of land. Thus, all the major cities around the world have higher number of apartment buidling to solve this issue.
In contrast, some people believe that these high rise building are destroying the landscape of major cities. The argue that these tall towers are preventing sunlight and causing major enviromental issue for humans and well as animals. For example, as reported by animal conservation institutes, most of the cities have a declining ratio of flying birds due to the increasing number of highrise buildings, these building have reflective windows causing birds to collide with them and die. Therefore, most enviroment enthusiasts believe that the increasing number of tall buildings
In summary, the best solution for accomodating the growing urban population is to increase the number of high rise apartment buildings, although, some people believe this notion will cause harm to the habitats of various animals. However, this practice is proven to be the most efficient and effective way of dealing the situation at hand.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that high-rise apartments are an efficient way to provide homes, and the conclusion returns to this view. The land-use argument is relevant and supported with the Hong Kong example. You also acknowledge a counterargument about effects on birds and sunlight, so the response addresses both the main claim and an opposing view. This meets the task well, with some elements more fully developed than others: the benefits are explained, but the environmental concern is left unfinished (“most environment enthusiasts believe that the increasing number of tall buildings”) and is not fully weighed against your position. To strengthen the response further, complete that point and explain why the housing benefits outweigh, or do not outweigh, the environmental costs.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate body paragraphs and a conclusion. The progression from population pressure to land efficiency, followed by a counterargument, is generally easy to follow. Linking expressions such as “For instance,” “In contrast,” and “In summary” help signal the stages of the argument. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and the third paragraph ends with an incomplete sentence, interrupting the progression and leaving its main point unresolved. Some references are also broad, such as “all the major cities around the world,” which makes the connection to the Hong Kong example less precise. Develop the counterargument to a complete point and use clearer links between evidence and your own evaluation.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant topic vocabulary, including “high rise apartments,” “limited area of land,” “reflective windows,” and “declining ratio of flying birds.” These choices make the subject clear, and there is some attempt to use more formal language. However, spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural combinations are noticeable, including “accomodate,” “compairson,” “seperate housings,” and “increasing number of apartment buidling.” Some wording is also vague or repetitive, such as “all the above facilities” and “deal with the situation at hand.” These issues do not prevent the reader from understanding the main argument, but they limit precision and fluency. Check spelling carefully and learn common collocations for housing, urban growth and environmental impacts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause in “as land is scarce” and a contrast introduced by “although.” Most of the argument remains understandable, but some grammatical errors and punctuation problems are evident. For example, “The argue” lacks a clear subject and correct verb form, while “these high rise building are” has a plural agreement error. The sentence beginning “This is when apartment building comes into practice, they are able…” joins two independent clauses with only a comma, and the final sentence of the third paragraph is incomplete. Aim to make each sentence grammatically complete, check subject–verb agreement and plurals, and use full stops or suitable conjunctions to connect clauses.
