Student answer (Band 6.0)

It is often argued that tall building apartments should be constructed to facilitate enough individuals to have their homes in a big cities. I completely agree with this statement because nowadays many individuals are facing the problem of not having their own home.

One of the main benefits of constructing tall building appartments is it provide more houses to people in a small place. In today's world, population is increasing rapidly along with that the demand of land is also increasing and in many countries there is not enough land to provide shelters to all individuals, in such case tall building can be a better option for the governments to provide to their public. For exmaple, in densely populated cities such as Karachi, high rise apartments can provide homes for thousands of residents while preserving land for parks and parkings. Secondly, apartment building can also reduce the housing cost such as, residents do not have to look after the maintance of the building the developers will manage the overall services of the buildings. For example, security and maintance is always provided by the develpers of the buildings. Furthermore, these buildings can be constructed near the workplaces, schools, and universities, reducing the transportation expense.

However, tall buidling are not only the solution. Poorly designed appartments sometimes can face electricity problem which can make difficult for the apartment owners to reach their apartments. Because of excessive residential apartments in a single building it can lead to the overcrowding.

In conclusion, constructing tall apartments can lead to overcrowding but i agree tall building apartments are an effective way to address housing shortage in large cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction (“I completely agree”) and is maintained in the conclusion. You give relevant reasons for building upwards, including making more homes available on limited land, preserving space for parks, and locating housing near workplaces and education. The Karachi example helps illustrate the land-use point. You also acknowledge a drawback—overcrowding and possible electricity problems—so the response addresses both the proposal and a qualification. However, some points are asserted rather than explained: the claim that apartment living reduces housing costs is supported mainly by a point about maintenance, and the electricity issue is not clearly connected to poor design. Develop these ideas with clearer cause-and-effect reasoning and a more specific example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, a paragraph presenting advantages, a paragraph noting disadvantages, and a conclusion. The progression from land efficiency to costs and location is generally understandable, and signposts such as “One of the main benefits,” “Secondly,” “Furthermore,” and “However” help guide the reader. At times, though, linking is mechanical, and several ideas are crowded into one long paragraph. The sentence beginning “In today's world” joins multiple claims without clear punctuation, making the relationships harder to follow. The reference in “in such case” is also vague. Separate the main advantages into clearer units and use linking phrases that show the precise relationship between each claim and its support.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of topic vocabulary, including “densely populated,” “high rise apartments,” “housing shortage,” “overcrowding,” and “transportation expense.” These choices make the subject clear, and some phrases show an attempt to be precise. However, spelling errors and awkward or repetitive collocations reduce accuracy: “appartments,” “exmaple,” “maintance,” “develpers,” and “buidling” recur, while “provide to their public” and “look after the maintance of the building” are unnatural. “Tall building apartments” is also repeated instead of using a more natural alternative. Check spelling carefully and learn common housing collocations; this will make your adequate range more accurate and flexible.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a relative clause in “which can make difficult for the apartment owners to reach their apartments” and a conditional phrase in “in such case.” The overall meaning is usually understandable, but some errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction remain. For example, “it provide more houses” needs subject–verb agreement, and “in a big cities” has an article and plural mismatch. The long sentence beginning “In today's world” contains several clauses joined without suitable punctuation, while “which can make difficult” is missing “it.” Aim to control these patterns in longer sentences, and check agreement and articles when revising.
