Student answer (Band 6.0)

Some people believe that constructing tall apartments in larger cities is the best way to provide enough homes. I completely agree with this statement because by doing it, we will have enough accomodation for families and the government will have enough space to build their projects.

We are currently dealing with an unexpected rise in the human population around the world, as a result of this, the accomodation of such a large population in a limited space is not possible. To solve this issue, we need to build taller apartments that can accomodate more number of people in less space. For example, in countries like China and Japan, the government has constructed taller buildings to provide accomodation to the public.

The government wants to build projects for the public on a larger scale that can boost the economy of the country and increase the GDP, but in some cases due to unavailability of enough space, they delay these projects or completely put them on hold. For example, in India the government wants to build public toilets in every city to maintain cleanliness but due to the lack of space they were able to construct fewer toilets. The construction of tall apartment buildings will eventually solve this problem.

To conclude, there are various benefits associated with the construction of tall buildings. We will be able to accomodate more families in less space, and continue surviving on this planet without the fear of lack of accomodation. The space to build other ammenities will also be available.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely agree that tall apartment buildings are the best way to provide homes. You give relevant reasons about accommodating more people in limited space and leaving room for public projects, with examples from China, Japan and India. This addresses the task, but the support is uneven. The first example is broad and does not explain how these buildings have helped meet housing demand, while the discussion of public toilets shifts attention from providing homes and does not establish that apartment towers would solve the space problem. Develop the housing argument with a specific, explained example and connect each supporting point more directly to the question.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs presenting reasons, and a conclusion that restates your position. The progression from population pressure to limited space is easy to follow, and phrases such as “For example” help signal supporting evidence. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. The opening body sentence joins two complete ideas with a comma in “around the world, as a result of this,” and the link between apartment blocks and the government’s public projects is asserted rather than explained. The conclusion repeats earlier points without adding a clear synthesis. Use more precise links between claims and examples, and ensure each paragraph develops one connected line of reasoning.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use an adequate range of topic-related vocabulary, including “human population,” “limited space,” “boost the economy” and “construction.” These choices make your main points understandable, and you attempt some more formal expressions. However, several words and phrases are repeated, especially “accomodation” and “space,” and some combinations are unnatural or imprecise, such as “accomodate more number of people” and “continue surviving on this planet.” There are also spelling errors in “accomodation” and “ammenities.” Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated terms; for example, refer to housing capacity or residential development where appropriate. These improvements would make the argument sound more natural and controlled.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including a reason clause with “because” and a relative clause in “projects … that can boost the economy.” Most sentences communicate the intended meaning, but some grammatical and punctuation errors remain. In “around the world, as a result of this,” two independent clauses are joined with only a comma; use a full stop or a semicolon. “More number of people” is not a well-formed comparative construction, and “they were able to construct fewer toilets” has an unclear reference for “they.” The long sentence beginning “The government wants to build projects” would also be clearer if divided or carefully punctuated. Check clause boundaries and make pronoun references explicit.
