Student answer (Band 6.0)

All around the world with the growth of population, many countries suffer from adequate residential area and so government build tall apartment blocks in populated cities to distribute the citizens. I fully agree with the statement that it is the best way to provide enough homes.

To begin with, many number of people present in a limited area and essentially looking for a resident zone, can opt for flats as it provide residence facility with other services like parking space and play area for children, in share among every resident. Crucially, multi-storey building blocks can let multiple families live in an small area. The relevant example of a city with humungous population but able to manage enough homes is Mumbai in India.

The points like cost price of these individual flat is lower than to buy a house, and the immigrants who migrate from a different cities for temporary work like job find easier to live in a rented flat or room of an apartment as it maybe under their budget. Also, individuals who opt to live in such a society finds integrity among themselves, good peer connection and better foster area for their offspring. More importantly, source of renewable energy like solar panels could be installed on rooftops that benefit all the people living in that apartment block.

Concluding the discussion, rather than building multiple homes that charge overall maintenance bill per tenant, requires separate area size to build a house. The owners of apartment blocks are responsible for the maintenance cost, benefits tenant in shared maintenance cost and requires one specific area where many peoples' could reside.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

Your position is clear from the introduction: you fully agree that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes. You give several relevant reasons, including accommodating many families on limited land, lower costs, rental options for temporary workers, shared facilities and rooftop solar panels. The Mumbai example also supports the point about housing a large population. This covers the task well, but the support is uneven: the claims about community connections and children’s environment are asserted rather than explained, and the conclusion mainly repeats the space and maintenance arguments. To strengthen the response further, develop the most important reasons with clearer explanation or a specific example, and briefly acknowledge a limitation or alternative before reaffirming your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion, with ideas generally grouped by topic. Linking phrases such as “To begin with,” “More importantly” and “Concluding the discussion” help signal progression. However, some connections are mechanical, and the second body paragraph moves quickly from cost and renting to social benefits and solar energy without showing how these points relate. The conclusion also introduces a comparison with “building multiple homes” that has not been clearly developed earlier. Use clearer topic sentences and arrange each paragraph around one main reason, then connect supporting details explicitly. This would make the overall progression easier to follow and reduce occasional uncertainty about how ideas relate.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “multi-storey,” “immigrants,” “renewable energy” and “maintenance cost,” and the main meaning is usually understandable. There are also noticeable word-choice and collocation problems that make some phrases awkward or unclear, such as “suffer from adequate residential area,” “distribute the citizens,” “cost price” and “integrity among themselves.” “Humungous” is informal for this essay, while “resident zone” is not a natural expression in this context. Aim for precise, conventional collocations rather than more elaborate wording: for example, describe a shortage of housing, accommodate residents, and refer to a sense of community. Proofreading spelling and word forms, including “humungous,” would also improve control.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses beginning “as” and “who,” and the overall message can generally be followed. However, errors in agreement, articles, plurals and sentence construction are frequent enough to make several sentences difficult to process. For example, “government build” needs a plural subject or singular verb, “it provide” should agree with “it,” and “in an small area” has an article error. The final sentence is especially hard to follow because its clauses do not form a clear grammatical structure. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and article use, and divide long sentences into shorter, complete units. More accurate control of these basics will make your complex ideas clearer.
