Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is often argued that constructing high-rise buildings is the solution for housing shortage in big cities. In my opinion, I partially agree with this view. While tall apartments saves lot of space, government should also develop nearby village to reduce the pressure on cities.
On the one hand, vertical apartments have several benefits for crowded cities. The main reason is that the big cities have limited land space but a very large population. By building tall flats instead of wide, thousand of families live at the same place. For example, in metro cities like Delhi and Mumbai, high-rise building is very essential for the office worker to easily find the living space near their workplace,
On the other hand, relying on tall buildings can creates the other problems. The main concern is that , it put lot of pressure in cities infrastructure, which leads to traffic congestion and water shortage. For instance, thousand of people have the same supply of pipeline in apartment, this may cause wastage of water and problem of parking in the apartment. Furthermore, To solve this issue, government should expand the public transport system and provide the jobs opportunity in local areas or rural cities, it will easy for the the people who travelled a long for their job to big cities.
In conclusion, although tall apartments are essential to maintain the crowd of the cities such as Delhi and Mumbai, and it is beneficial for the office worker to find houses easily. Whereas it put pressure on infrastructure of a city and leads to traffic jams on the roads. I think a balanced approach is essential to maintain this issues.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you partially agree that high-rise housing helps, while arguing that government should also develop nearby or rural areas. You address both the benefits and drawbacks, using Delhi and Mumbai as relevant examples, and the conclusion returns to the need for a balanced approach. This covers the task well overall. However, some points are less fully developed: the claim that apartment living can cause water shortages and parking problems is asserted rather than explained, and the proposed development of local areas is not supported with a specific example or detail. To strengthen the response, explain how these alternatives would reduce demand for city housing and weigh their effectiveness against building upwards.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs and a conclusion. The progression from advantages to disadvantages is easy to follow, and signposts such as “On the one hand,” “On the other hand” and “In conclusion” help guide the reader. This is a sound foundation. At times, however, connections are mechanical or unclear. The sentence beginning “Furthermore, To solve this issue” combines a transition with a solution without clearly showing how the proposed measures address the preceding infrastructure problems. The final paragraph also repeats earlier points rather than synthesising them. Use clearer links between each problem and its solution, and make references such as “this issue” and “these issues” precise.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You use relevant vocabulary for the topic, including “high-rise buildings,” “limited land space,” “traffic congestion” and “public transport system.” These choices make the main ideas understandable, and there is some attempt to use topic-specific language. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate, such as “maintain the crowd,” “same supply of pipeline” and “the jobs opportunity.” Repetition of “cities,” “pressure” and “tall apartments” also limits flexibility. Aim to learn common collocations for housing and urban planning, and check whether a phrase sounds natural in context. More precise wording would help you express the causes and consequences of urban growth clearly.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a contrast clause beginning “While tall apartments…” and a relative clause in “the people who travelled…”. This shows some range, but control is inconsistent, particularly in longer sentences. Examples include “tall apartments saves,” “relying on tall buildings can creates,” and “it put lot of pressure,” where subject–verb agreement, verb form and article use need attention. The sentence beginning “Furthermore” also joins several ideas with a comma, making its structure difficult to control. Review agreement and verb patterns after modal verbs, and divide long sentences into clearer units. More accurate sentence construction would make your argument easier to follow.
