IELTS Writing Task 2 question
The best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks.
To what extent do you agree or disagree with this statement?
Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.
Student answer (Band 4.0)
The greatest way to provide enough accomodation in big cities is to build high apartment blocks. I strongly agree with this statement because people will be able to afford the accomodations and it's environment friendly.
In big cities, major problem for most of people is accomodation. As with time when population increases, it gets hard for people to find accomodotion because houses are less and people are more , prices increases. So in this scenerio, many people cannot afford expensive houses. They look for apartments.
Moreover, building apartments is more enviroment friendly than houses in big cities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.0
Your position is clear: you strongly agree, and you give two relevant reasons—affordability and environmental impact. However, the response addresses the task only minimally because neither reason is explained with enough detail or supported by an example. The point that population growth raises housing prices is relevant, but the link between apartment blocks and greater affordability needs to be made explicit. The environmental claim is only stated, with no explanation of how taller buildings might use land or resources more efficiently. The response also falls short of the required minimum length. Develop each reason in a separate body paragraph, explain the cause-and-effect link, and include a specific example before concluding.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
There is a basic overall structure: an introduction states your view, followed by a paragraph about housing costs and a separate point about the environment. The ideas are generally relevant and can be followed, and “Moreover” signals an additional reason. However, the response ends abruptly, with no conclusion, and the environmental point is not developed into a complete paragraph. Some connections are unclear: “As with time when population increases” does not smoothly introduce the explanation, while “So in this scenario” leads to a point that is not fully linked back to tall apartment blocks. Use clear topic sentences, connect each explanation directly to your position, and add a concluding summary.
Lexical Resource: Band 4.5
You use a small set of relevant housing terms, including “apartment blocks,” “population,” “prices,” and “environment friendly,” so the main topic is understandable. However, the vocabulary is limited and some choices or spellings reduce accuracy and naturalness. “Accomodation” is misspelled repeatedly, and “accomodotion” is another spelling error; “houses are less and people are more” is also an imprecise way to describe a shortage. The repeated use of “people” and “houses” limits variety. Build a more precise range for discussing urban housing, such as housing supply, demand, affordability, density, and land use, and check spelling and collocations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5
You communicate your main position using simple sentence patterns, and the opening sentence gives the reader a clear direction. There is also an attempt to explain a cause-and-effect relationship in “As with time when population increases,” but the structure is incomplete and difficult to follow. Other errors include the missing article in “major problem,” the run-on punctuation in “accomodation. As,” and the faulty clause “prices increases.” Sentence structures are mostly simple, with little variety or accurate control of longer sentences. Practise forming complete complex sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check articles, subject–verb agreement, and punctuation when joining clauses.
