Student answer (Band 7.0)
In today's globalized world, population growth is a serious concern for big cities. Therefore, critics believe that constructing apartment blocks rather than houses is a much more pragmatic approach to accomodating a large number of people in a smaller place. Despite the fact that living in a house offers more privacy, I concur with the notion that building apartments is more practical because deforestation due to increasing land demand is a substantial issue.
In recent times, the number of people renting or buying apartments is increasing in many big cities. This is primarily because governments are investing huge funds in building apartments rather than allocating lands for houses. Due to increasing population, regulatory bodies have increased land prices and taxes so more and more people move towards living in a apartment. In many US states, such as California and Florida buying your own house is so expensive so many individuals cannot afford it.
Opponents of this view argue that apartments offer less privacy for families because of the close proximity of neighbouring residents. However, modern structures have alleviated the problem by making apartments with thick walls with noice cancellation material for more privacy. Furthermore, many apartments have their own parking, supermarkerts and many other basic human necessities which makes it quite feasible to live in apartments. In addition, apartments often have security measures in place, addressing a common concern among people who own houses.
In a nutshell, while both viewpoints have their own merit, I firmly believe that to deal with pressing issues such as increasing population and deforestation, building apartments is a much more viable option.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 7.0
Your position is clear throughout: you agree that apartment blocks are more practical, and you acknowledge the opposing concern about privacy before responding to it. The discussion of land demand and deforestation gives a relevant reason, while the examples of housing costs in California and Florida help illustrate affordability pressures. However, the support is not always fully developed: the paragraph about rising apartment demand focuses largely on government investment, land prices and taxes, without clearly explaining how these factors demonstrate that tall blocks are the best way to provide enough homes. The conclusion restates your view effectively. To strengthen the response, explain more directly how high-rise construction increases housing capacity and connect each example to the question.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 7.0
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your position, the body paragraphs develop supporting points and address an opposing view, and the conclusion summarises your stance. Progression is generally logical, and linking expressions such as “Despite the fact,” “However,” “Furthermore” and “In addition” help guide the reader. Some connections could be more precise. For example, the shift from government investment to higher land prices and then to people choosing apartments is presented as a chain, but the relationship between these points is not fully explained. The final body paragraph also combines privacy, building materials, amenities and security, making it feel somewhat crowded. Grouping related ideas and clarifying cause-and-effect links would make the progression more controlled.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.5
You use a suitable range of topic vocabulary, including “population growth,” “regulatory bodies,” “close proximity,” “deforestation” and “security measures.” These choices allow you to discuss housing and urban pressures with some flexibility. There are also attempts at less common phrasing, such as “a much more pragmatic approach” and “pressing issues,” though some combinations are not fully natural or precise. Spelling errors such as “accomodating,” “noice” and “supermarkerts” detract from accuracy, and “basic human necessities” is an awkward description of apartment amenities. At this level, meaning remains clear, but more consistent control of spelling, collocation and precise word choice is needed. Proofread carefully and choose expressions that fit the context naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 7.0
You demonstrate a useful variety of sentence forms, including complex clauses such as “Despite the fact that living in a house offers more privacy…” and “because of the close proximity of neighbouring residents.” Many sentences are clear and grammatically controlled, and your position remains easy to follow. A few errors persist in articles, agreement and punctuation. For instance, “move towards living in a apartment” needs the correct article, while “many apartments have their own parking, supermarkerts and many other basic human necessities which makes it” has a long structure in which the agreement and clause boundaries need attention. There are also missing commas after introductory phrases and around examples. Continue using complex structures, but check articles, subject–verb agreement and sentence boundaries during revision.
