Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.5

You give a relevant response by recognising that apartment blocks can address limited space, while also arguing that they bring safety and other disadvantages. The examples about unauthorised construction and building collapses in Karachi help make the discussion concrete. However, your position on whether you agree with the statement is not clearly stated, and the response does not fully compare tall blocks with other ways of providing homes. The point about reduced light and its effect on vision is introduced but left unfinished, so it is not developed into a clear supporting reason. The response is also below the required 250 words, which limits how fully you can explain and support your ideas. State your position directly and develop each reason with explanation or an example.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

There is some organisation: the opening introduces housing demand, the next point explains the space-saving benefit, and a later paragraph turns to construction risks. Linking expressions such as “therefore,” “first,” and “Along this” show an attempt to connect ideas. However, progression is not consistently clear, and some links are inaccurate or abrupt. For example, “therefore building homes required more space” does not clearly connect the preceding point about people moving to cities, while “Along this” does not smoothly introduce the final concern. The last sentence is unfinished, leaving the discussion without a complete ending or conclusion. Use clear topic sentences, connect each explanation explicitly to your position, and finish with a concluding sentence.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You attempt vocabulary relevant to the topic, including “urban areas,” “construction material,” “population,” and “exposure to light.” These choices show that you can communicate the main subject and some specific concerns. However, the range is basic and several spelling, word-form, and collocation errors make parts difficult to understand, such as “employlement opporunity,” “space storage occure,” and “inocant people.” Some phrases are also imprecise, including “luxury life” and “long and tall building.” Aim for accurate, natural combinations rather than adding more complicated words: for example, describe “limited space” and “high-rise apartment buildings.” Proofread spelling and choose vocabulary that expresses each point precisely.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 4.5

The response includes some attempts to join ideas in longer sentences, for example the opening explanation beginning “because” and the sentence about construction materials. However, sentence structures are very limited overall, and frequent errors in agreement, articles, verb forms, and punctuation sometimes make the meaning difficult to follow. Examples include “everyone know,” “homes required,” and “All this issues … lead”; the final sentence also lacks a complete grammatical ending. Many sentences run together without full stops, which further obscures the relationships between ideas. Practise building accurate simple sentences first, then combine them with controlled clauses using “because,” “although,” or “which.” Check subject–verb agreement and ensure every sentence has a complete main clause.
