Student answer (Band 6.0)
It is argued that a top notch aproach to increase residential area for people is to build apartments and tall buildings. I totally agree to this viewpoint that building apartments is a smarter move to accomodate increasing population in big cities. This essay will acknowledge the reasons that will be explored further.
Without a shadow of doubt, it is clear that the idea of apartments not only provide enough space for the people but also serve many favourable benefits. Not only apartments are economical for the individual of the city but also it increases opportunities for social life among the residents. moreover, this will benifit them in the long run to save finances for other aspects of life. For example, foreign students who usualy come to big cities for education rent an apartment which is cheaper option to them.
however, living in apartments can be detrimental for people of old ages who prefer quiet and calm residential areas. The hustle and bustle of using elevators, extra crowd around play area, low privacy and the extra cost of maintainance all these factors lead to a negative trend which will eventually effect the quality of individual's lives. For example, a survey in US showed that people living in apartments and in busy life of city encountered mental health issues.
To sumup, while apartments serve an excellent way to provide homes to thousands of residents still it lacks the calm and quietness of the environment. Thus, a building with only limited apartments in a floor can serve a balanced purpose.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you agree that apartment construction is a practical response to population growth, and the conclusion restates this view while proposing a limit on the number of apartments per floor. You also consider a drawback, including privacy, noise and maintenance costs, so the response addresses the issue from more than one angle. However, the main case for tall blocks is not fully developed: the claim that they provide space is asserted rather than explained through land use or housing capacity. The student-rental example supports affordability, but its connection to tall buildings is not made explicit. The mental-health example is also broad and unsupported. Develop these points with clearer explanations and specific, relevant evidence.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, separate paragraphs for benefits and drawbacks, and a conclusion. The progression from your agreement to a qualification is generally easy to follow, and examples are placed alongside the points they are intended to support. Some linking is effective, such as “For example” and “To sum up,” but other transitions feel mechanical or do not clearly show the relationship between ideas. The opening of the second body paragraph, “however,” would work better as a clearly punctuated contrast, and the conclusion’s “while … still” construction makes the relationship between the two sides less smooth. Within the first body paragraph, several benefits are listed without enough explanation of how they connect. Use clearer topic sentences and develop each paragraph around one main point.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
You attempt a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “residential area,” “social life,” “detrimental,” “privacy,” and “quality of … lives.” These choices help communicate both advantages and disadvantages, and the meaning is generally understandable. However, several spelling errors and imprecise or unnatural combinations reduce accuracy, including “aproach,” “accomodate,” “benifit,” “usualy,” and “maintainance.” Phrases such as “people of old ages,” “extra crowd around play area,” and “busy life of city” are not natural in this context. Some expressions, such as “Without a shadow of doubt,” are also more emphatic than the argument requires. Aim for accurate, natural collocations and check spelling carefully; precise wording will make your ideas clearer and more convincing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You use both simple statements and attempts at more complex structures, including “Not only … but also …” and the contrast in your conclusion. This gives the response some structural variety, and the main message remains understandable. However, errors in agreement and sentence construction recur: “the idea of apartments … provide” needs a singular verb, while “Not only apartments are economical … but also it increases” has an awkward inversion and inconsistent subject agreement. The sentence beginning “The hustle and bustle … all these factors lead” also needs clearer punctuation and a more controlled structure. Capitalisation after full stops is inconsistent, and some clauses run together. Practise checking subject–verb agreement, parallel structures and sentence boundaries, while retaining the complex forms you are attempting.
