Student answer (Band 5.0)

People believe that constructing tall buildings in urban areas is usefull to make space for many homes. In my perspective, this is the only way to provide enough homes. This essay will discuss some reasons and justifications to this statement.

The population in large cities is increasing dramatically due to high birth rates and low death rates. As a result there is always shortage of resources such as land. Consequantly individuals are facing challenges to build or buy houses in these areas. These challenges are caused due to the lack of enough space for them to construct or build houses.

Many individuals believe that appartments are the best options to solve this problem. Because the public nowadays doesn't want to move or reside in country side or rural areas. This is due to the availability of high access to electricity facilities, infrastructures, and technological advancements in municipal areas unlike the villages.

Conversely, few number of people argue that building tall apartment blocks could not be the solution to this issue. They believe, apartments are very expensive for individuals to afford. Additionally, tall buildings are not convenient to live as they hold large number of residents in just one. As a result, instead of making large number of people in a single apartment, the public should be allowed to make choices on whatever they want to live.

To conclude, the goverment has a great role in addressing this problem. To make the issue easy to every citizen govermental authorities should involve and decide.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

You give a clear overall view in the introduction, stating that tall buildings are “the only way” to provide enough homes, and you include reasons related to population growth, limited land and the appeal of city services. However, the response only partially develops the task: the claim that apartment blocks are the best solution is not supported with a specific example or a clear explanation of how they increase housing supply. The opposing view about cost and convenience is introduced, but it is not reconciled with your strong opening position. The conclusion shifts to the government’s role without restating whether you agree or explaining what action authorities should take. Develop fewer points more fully and maintain a consistent, explicit position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable introduction, body paragraphs and conclusion, and the paragraphs broadly group related ideas: urban population pressures, reasons people prefer cities, and objections to apartment living. This gives the reader some organisation. However, progression between the points is not always clear. For example, the paragraph about city services explains why people stay in urban areas, but its link to tall apartment blocks as the best housing solution needs to be made explicit. Connectors such as “As a result,” “Additionally” and “Conversely” help signal relationships, but some transitions feel mechanical or do not fully express the logic. The final paragraph also introduces government involvement without linking it to the preceding discussion. Use clearer topic sentences and explain how each paragraph supports your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “population,” “resources,” “infrastructures,” “technological advancements” and “residents,” so the main subject is generally clear. However, the range is limited by repeated or imprecise expressions such as “build or buy houses,” “make space” and “solve this problem.” Several word-choice, collocation and spelling errors are noticeable, including “usefull,” “Consequantly,” “appartments” and “govermental.” Phrases such as “high access to electricity facilities” and “large number of people in a single apartment” are also awkward and may make the intended meaning less clear. Aim for precise housing-related collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, distinguish between a building, an apartment and a housing unit.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and complex sentence forms, including a cause-and-effect sentence beginning “As a result” and a contrast introduced by “Conversely.” These attempts show some range, but complex structures are often faulty, and frequent errors can make the reader pause. For example, “Because the public nowadays doesn't want to move…” is a sentence fragment, while “there is always shortage” needs an article. In “apartments are not convenient to live as they hold large number of residents in just one,” the construction is incomplete and the final reference is unclear. There are also punctuation and spacing problems, such as the missing space after “areas.” Practise complete clauses, articles, and clear sentence boundaries, then proofread each sentence for grammatical completeness.
