Student answer (Band 5.5)

This is an ongoing topic of debate these days that it is perfect way to provide enough homes in metropolitan cities are building tall apartment blocks. In this essay I will discuss the both perspectives before presenting my own view.

First and foremost, many individuals believe that building tall apartments are the most possible way to provide home. There are several factor that support their stance. For instance highrise appartments consume small amount of land and provide lots of homes. It is also a cost effective method. building separate homes are quite expensive and consume substaintial amount of land. Furthermore, managing apartment blocks is much comfortable then separate homes. There are many homes and individuals get interact each other and they share same lift and park. Therfore people get chance to built a community and share their thoughts.

On the other hand, there are many people who argue that its not much beneficial to build tall apartments for houses. There are numerous safety challenges; for instance there will be a constant fear of a incident like 911. Moreover if a one apartment get into fire whole building will become dangerous for other and they have to leave their houses. Meanwhile separate homes offer more space and privacy. people often get their own parking place in a separate home.

In conclusion, although there are many positive aspects of highrise apartment, it has aslo numerous complication. In my opinion there are few complications in tall apartments but it can overcome with proper mangement, therefore it is more preferable to build highrise building for houses. It covers small amount of land and it is very essentail for future to save our land which is decreasing.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

You address both sides of the question and make your position clear: you ultimately support high-rise housing because it uses less land and can be managed effectively. The points about land use, cost, community, fire risk, space and privacy are relevant. However, some are asserted rather than explained. For example, the claim that residents “share their thoughts” does not show clearly how this makes apartment blocks a better way to provide enough homes, and the reference to “911” is unclear and needs a relevant, specific example. Develop the comparison by explaining why the benefits outweigh the safety and privacy concerns, and support key claims with clearer reasoning. This would make the response more fully developed across all parts of the task.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, separate paragraphs presenting opposing views, and a conclusion that restates your preference. Transitions such as “First and foremost,” “On the other hand,” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the main stages. This logical organisation is a strength. To make progression more consistently smooth, connect supporting points more explicitly within paragraphs; for instance, the move from cost to community benefits in the first body paragraph feels abrupt. Some linking phrases are also formulaic, and references such as “it” in “it can overcome” are not fully clear. Use a wider range of natural links and make the relationship between each example and its main point explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “metropolitan cities,” “safety challenges,” “privacy,” and “cost effective,” so the reader can understand the main argument. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are inaccurate, which sometimes makes the meaning less natural: “most possible way,” “get interact each other,” and “managing apartment blocks is much comfortable” are examples. Spelling errors such as “appartments,” “substaintial,” and “essentail” are also noticeable. Aim for precise housing-related expressions and check spelling carefully. Replacing awkward phrases with natural collocations will improve clarity as well as the overall range of vocabulary.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and more complex sentences, including a contrastive structure beginning “although” and a conditional clause about a fire. However, control is uneven, and errors in sentence formation, agreement, articles and verb patterns recur. For example, “it is perfect way … are building” does not form a clear grammatical clause, while “building tall apartments are” has a subject–verb agreement problem. In “if a one apartment get into fire,” the article and verb form are also incorrect. These issues can make some sentences difficult to process, even though the overall meaning is usually recoverable. Practise building accurate clauses first, then combine them using contrast and conditional structures.
