Student answer (Band 5.5)

Every year, new apartments blocks are developed in large cities. Due to the increase of migration from small cities to large cities for education, good jobs, and better quality of life, people need homes for their living. To providing enough homes to them, civil department is building tall apartment blocks in large cities. I agree with this, because building tall apartment blocks will reduce the space area covered in cities and more people can live there.

On the one hand, some cities have small apartment blocks due to the financial budget of the economy. However, it leads to more space of building more blocks in the city area which may lead to more crowd and chaos. For instance, cities building tall apartment blocks have more number of floors inside it which leads to separation of homes and people can leave safely and peacefully without any trouble or challenges. Another advantage of constructing this blocks will help society to make more connections and communties within their apartment as there are more people residing in the apartment which ultimately benefits them.

In my opinion, the perfect way is to develop tall apartment blocks for the people in large cities which helps them to do more networking, build strong connections and helps civil owners get more space to build some other areas like garden, playground for children, gym or any other amenities which benefits people living there.

In conclusion, larger cities will be benefitial by building tall apartment blocks, and it will help people to live with safety and security. This way they can have better quality of life.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear: you agree that tall apartment blocks can help provide homes, and you give relevant reasons, including using less land and freeing space for amenities such as gardens and playgrounds. However, the response only partly develops the task. The point about small blocks being linked to “the financial budget of the economy” is unclear, and the claim that taller buildings let residents “leave safely and peacefully” is not explained or convincingly connected to building height. The discussion also focuses on benefits without considering any limitation or explaining why this is the best way compared with alternatives. Develop fewer points with specific reasoning or an example to make your argument more fully supported.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, a body paragraph, a further paragraph expressing your view, and a conclusion. The main position is repeated consistently, and phrases such as “On the one hand,” “For instance,” and “In conclusion” help signal stages of the argument. However, progression between ideas is sometimes unclear: the discussion moves from budgets to crowding, then safety and community connections without showing how each point follows from the previous one. “On the one hand” also suggests a contrasting point, but no corresponding “on the other hand” argument appears. Use clearer links between claims and explanations, and organise each paragraph around one developed reason.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some topic-related vocabulary, including “migration,” “apartment blocks,” “amenities,” and “quality of life,” so the reader can understand the general subject. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations are noticeably inaccurate, sometimes making ideas harder to interpret. For example, “new apartments blocks” and “more number of floors” are not natural expressions, while “civil department” and “civil owners” do not clearly identify the relevant authorities or developers. There are also spelling errors such as “communties” and “benefitial.” Aim to use precise, natural phrases for housing and urban planning, and check spelling and word forms carefully.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt both simple and complex sentences, including a reason clause beginning “Due to…” and a relative clause in “which ultimately benefits them.” This shows some variety, but control is uneven, and errors recur in sentence construction, articles, agreement, and verb forms. For example, “To providing enough homes” should use an infinitive construction, and “this blocks” has a demonstrative–plural mismatch. In “which helps them to do more networking … and helps civil owners,” the subject and reference are unclear, while “people can leave safely” does not express the intended idea clearly. Practise building accurate sentences around one main clause, then add subordinate clauses only when their reference and agreement are clear.
