Student answer (Band 5.5)

Homes are where we all come to at the end of each to to meet or loved ones or to relax. A home is a neccesity for one to have, if building tall apartment blocks is one of the ways to bring that dream to life, then it is indeed a solution to so many that are in the cities in need of homes.

Tall apartment blocks creates more space for any other kind of structure to be elected.

One would say that the tall apartment blocks are expensive, because of the great qualities used in build them. That tall buildings could be diffcult to locate one, when all the city if filled with tall apartments.

All these are worth looking into, but the advantages outweighs the disadvantages be. A 50 flats in a singular structure has spaced up so much space for things like gym, playing ground for children, libary and so on.

Having tall apartments around eachother creates the this luxury ambiance which can easily become a structured estate with schools within it. Maling it a self sufficient estate where everyone can depend on the structures being elected within the estate.

With the influx of people coming to the cities for job opportunities, having homes like this gives them hope of not being stranded. A friend of mine wasgrateful that she was sble to secure a flat in one of the apartments, in her words "there is no empty lands here, whoever suggested these tall apartment buiding did a great job".

Having tall apartments in cities is saying, we see you, we care about you, and we want you to live with honour and dignity while fufilling whatever reason you can here for.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you support tall apartment blocks as a way to address housing needs, and you acknowledge drawbacks such as cost and difficulty finding a suitable location. You also give relevant supporting points, including the facilities that could be included in a large development and the example of your friend securing a flat. This addresses the main question, but some ideas are more fully explained than others. For instance, the claim that tall blocks create space for other structures is not clearly connected to how they provide enough homes, while the cost and location concerns are mentioned but not explored. To strengthen the response, explain these points and show more directly why high-rise housing is preferable to alternatives.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has an overall structure: it introduces the issue, considers disadvantages, develops benefits, and ends with a clear statement of support. Paragraphing helps separate these stages, and phrases such as “With the influx of people” signal a shift to another reason. However, progression within paragraphs is sometimes unclear. The opening moves from the meaning of home to the housing solution without a precise link, and “All these are worth looking into” does not clearly identify the points being referred to. Some ideas, such as the facilities and the self-sufficient estate, could be grouped and ordered more logically. Use clearer links between claims and explanations, and make references such as “these” specific.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “apartment blocks,” “job opportunities,” “self-sufficient estate,” and “luxury ambiance,” and your meaning is generally recoverable. However, the range is limited and several word-choice, collocation, and spelling problems make parts difficult to read. Examples include “elected” for buildings being constructed, “spaced up so much space,” “empty lands,” and “fufilling.” Some expressions, such as “come to at the end of each day,” also sound unnatural. Aim for accurate, conventional phrases for housing and urban planning, and check spelling carefully. More precise vocabulary would help you explain the benefits and drawbacks without relying on broad or awkward wording.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt a mixture of simple statements and longer sentences, including conditional phrasing such as “if building tall apartment blocks is one of the ways… then it is indeed a solution.” However, control is inconsistent, and errors in sentence structure, agreement, articles, and punctuation sometimes make the reader pause. For example, “Tall apartment blocks creates” has a subject–verb agreement error, while “the advantages outweighs” also mismatches subject and verb. The sentence beginning “That tall buildings could be difficult…” is incomplete, and “A 50 flats in a singular structure has…” has problems with both sentence construction and agreement. Practise building complete sentences and checking each subject against its verb; clearer sentence boundaries will also improve readability.
