Student answer (Band 5.0)

Problem of spaces for homes in big cities is an alarming issue. As population increases, spaces for building homes decreases. The best way to cope with this issue is to build tall apartment blocks. However, i totally agree with this statement.

Firstly, As i discussed earlier population is increasing day by day so demands for goods and homes also increases. A time reaches when there are little spaces left for building large houses in cities because of offices, shops and Plazas etc.As many people are approaching cities for better opportunities there is also need for homes. To resolve this issue, it is suggested to build appartments as seen in many large cities.

I agree with this statement because there is a huge burden on large cities and many people live in cities. Some live with families while others live on shared basis with other room mates. So, for this reason it is suggested to provide appartments to people for living purposes. That's why both government and private sectors try to build sky reaching appartments to accomodate as much families as it could so that to reduce burden on not having enough spaces. Not only for living purposes but appartments are also build for offices of both government and private sectors because of scarcity of spaces.

From the above discussion, it can be concluded that it is the best idea to provide enough homes in large cities in the form of apartment blocks to cope with problem of not having enough spaces means overpopulation and to save space for other activities.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear: you agree that tall apartment blocks are the best response to limited urban space. You also give relevant reasons, including population growth, migration to cities and the need to accommodate residents and offices. However, the discussion is repetitive and the main points are only briefly explained. For example, you mention shared living and government and private construction, but do not show how high-rise housing would provide enough homes more effectively than alternatives such as building on city outskirts or improving existing housing. The conclusion restates your view rather than adding a developed final insight. To strengthen the response, explain and support each reason with a specific example, and address the claim that this is the best approach.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, supporting paragraphs and a conclusion, and signposts such as “Firstly” and “From the above discussion” help readers follow the broad direction. However, progression between ideas is limited: the paragraphs repeat population growth, lack of space and the need for apartments rather than developing distinct points. Some links are mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “So, for this reason” and “That's why.” The opening also moves abruptly from the problem to agreement, and several sentences run together without appropriate spacing after full stops. Organise the body around separate reasons, connect each reason to its explanation, and use referencing and transitions more selectively.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You use vocabulary relevant to urban housing, including “population,” “scarcity of spaces,” “shared basis” and “accommodate.” This gives you enough language to communicate the central topic, but the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, especially “spaces,” “cities” and “apartments.” Some choices are imprecise or unnatural, such as “a time reaches,” “sky reaching apartments” and “reduce burden on not having enough spaces,” which make parts of the argument harder to understand. Spelling errors such as “appartments” and “accomodate” also affect accuracy. Aim for more precise collocations and vary repeated terms; for example, describe “limited land” or “housing shortages” rather than repeatedly referring to a lack of spaces.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentences, including a reason clause beginning “because” and a contrast introduced by “Not only.” However, the range is limited, and complex sentences are often faulty or difficult to follow. Examples include “As population increases, spaces for building homes decreases,” where subject–verb agreement is incorrect, and “both government and private sectors try to build … so that to reduce burden,” where the clause structure is not controlled. There are also recurring errors with articles, plurals and sentence boundaries, as in “there are little spaces” and the run-together “blocks.However.” Capitalisation of “i” is inconsistent. Practise accurate agreement and article use, and break long sentences into clear, complete clauses.
