Student answer (Band 5.5)
In recent years, large citices are experienced boomed in construction. Contractors are building tall apartment builings intead of residential houses for sigle family. I strongly agree to the idea that best way to provide enough homes in busy, crowed and large cities in to build tall apartment blocks.
First of all, tall buildings allows us to use our land more efficiently, provide more housing per acre of land. In large cities finding suitable homes near workplace is blessing, no need to stay on the traffic for long hours. In addition to that, tall building reduce the price of home, moderate income family can comfortably live city life and money can be spend on other essentials. A large number of citizens lives under a very small area can help elderly. In recent years research showed elders fell alone, depresed because no one is there to talk to. Constructing tall building in urban areas helps to protect outskarts of the city. No need to construct more house in the green area, when housing demand meet by raising up the buildings.
Others may argue that, raising buildings also cause problems. When large number of people lives in a small area, facilities should be near, such as Schools and hospitals. Emergencies a patient has to go to the hospital as soon as posible failing to do so may loss a life. Children can not travel far from their home it can cause mental distress for the parents and worst case accedents.
In conclusion, constructing tall building in a large busy cities is the best way to meet the housing demands, however it may create problems for some peole

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you strongly agree that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes in large cities, and the conclusion returns to this view. You give relevant reasons, including more efficient land use, potentially lower housing costs, access to workplaces, and protecting green areas. You also acknowledge a counterargument about pressure on schools and hospitals, so the response addresses both the proposal and a possible drawback. This meets the task well, with some elements showing further development. However, the point about high-density living helping elderly people is not clearly connected to the housing argument, and the concerns about facilities and children are introduced but not fully explained. Develop these ideas with clearer cause-and-effect reasoning or a specific example.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response has a recognisable overall structure: an introduction, a main paragraph supporting the proposal, a paragraph presenting concerns, and a conclusion. Sequencing phrases such as “First of all,” “In addition to that,” and “In conclusion” help signal the stages of the argument. However, the first body paragraph contains several distinct points—commuting, affordability, elderly residents, and green space—so its progression is not always easy to follow. Some links are also mechanical, and the relationship between sentences such as “A large number of citizens lives under a very small area can help elderly” is unclear. Group related reasons into separate, logically developed paragraphs and use pronouns or linking phrases with clear references to make the argument flow more smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use some relevant topic vocabulary, including “apartment blocks,” “housing demand,” “urban areas,” “green area,” and “mental distress.” These choices show an attempt to discuss housing and city planning rather than relying entirely on general language. However, the range is limited and several spelling errors or imprecise combinations make the writing less fluent, for example “citices,” “builings,” “crowed,” and “outskarts.” Phrases such as “stay on the traffic” and “raising up the buildings” are not natural collocations, while “moderate income family” needs more precise phrasing. Build a bank of accurate expressions for density, affordability, transport, and public services, and check spelling and word combinations carefully.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0
You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences, including a conditional idea in “When large number of people lives in a small area, facilities should be near.” This gives the response some structural variety, but control is inconsistent, and errors sometimes make relationships between ideas difficult to understand. Examples include “large citices are experienced boomed,” “tall buildings allows,” and “a large number of citizens lives,” where verb forms or subject–verb agreement are faulty. Articles and sentence construction also need attention, as in “finding suitable homes near workplace is blessing” and “Emergencies a patient has to go to the hospital.” Practise building accurate complex sentences with clear subjects and verbs, and check agreement, articles, and punctuation when editing.
