Student answer (Band 6.5)
It is often mentioned that the best way to provide homes in large cities is by constructing tall apartment buildings. I completely agree with this opinion because it is the most efficient way to utilize land.
Urbanization is increasing gradually, and people are moving toward cities for better opportunities and facilities. The most important area of the city is the city-center and most of the people tend to live as near as possible. The only way to accommodate all of the people is to build tall buildings with multiple apartments rather than building a single-story villa with a lawn. The space used by that villa can be turned into a high apartment block that will accommodate far more people than a single-story house. The reason most of the people move to the city is to live near universities and offices so that they do not have to travel long distances every day. If there are villas in the city, then the city has to expand, which will move residential areas farther away from the city center. Construction of tall apartment blocks also has economic benefits. For example, the same land that is being used for a single-story house can be used to build a multi-story building with apartment-style homes. This way, multiple tenants can be accommodated. This will provide more people the opportunity to live near the city center.
In conclusion of the above discussion, I believe that land is a very necessary resource and we have to use it more efficiently. So building tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide homes people with minimum use of land.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
Your position is clear from the introduction: you completely agree because tall buildings use land efficiently, and the conclusion returns to this view. The response addresses the central question with relevant reasoning, especially the comparison between a villa and an apartment block and the point that low-density housing can push residents farther from the city centre. These examples support your argument, but several points repeat the same land-use benefit rather than extending the discussion. The claim that tall blocks are “the only way” is also too absolute and would benefit from qualification or evidence. To develop the response further, consider another dimension, such as affordability, infrastructure, or the disadvantages of high-rise living, and explain how it affects your position.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5
The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction states your view, the main paragraph develops reasons, and the conclusion restates your position. Ideas generally progress from urbanisation and proximity to services to the efficient use of land. Linking phrases such as “For example” and “In conclusion” help readers follow the argument. However, the main paragraph is long and contains several related points that could be grouped more deliberately; the comparison with villas and the economic benefit largely repeat one another. Some connections are also mechanical, particularly the repeated use of “The reason” and “This way.” Divide the body into focused paragraphs and use clearer referencing or varied transitions to show how each new point advances the argument.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
You use an adequate range of topic vocabulary, including “urbanization,” “accommodate,” “residential areas,” and “city center,” which makes the subject clear. There are also attempts at more formal phrasing, such as “utilize land” and “economic benefits.” However, some wording is repetitive or imprecise: “people” and “city” recur frequently, while “the most important area of the city” is vague. A few collocations are awkward, including “provide homes people” and “apartment-style homes.” More precise choices and greater variety would make the argument sound more natural and flexible. For example, use terms such as “housing demand,” “urban land,” and “high-density development” where appropriate, while ensuring that each phrase fits its context.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.5
You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including subordinate clauses such as “so that they do not have to travel long distances” and a conditional structure beginning “If there are villas in the city.” Most sentences communicate their meaning clearly. Some grammatical errors remain, however. In “building tall apartment blocks are the best way,” the subject is a gerund phrase and requires “is”; “provide homes people” is missing “for” before “people”; and “the city-center” is not correctly formed with the article and hyphen. There are also some long sentences that would benefit from tighter control of punctuation and clause structure. Review agreement, articles, and prepositions, while continuing to use complex sentences.
