Student answer (Band 5.5)

Building tall apartment blocks is an effective way for shortage of housing. It is not a complete solution for housing because of lower infrastructure planning which it requires the cost of building. Each coin has two sides so, i am partially agree due issues.

On the one hand, building tall apartment will improve the housing capacity for people and also utilize less space for construction. Infrastructure and desgin will make the city more attractive the new visitors. Hence, this makes more futurstic. This is a cost effective and usage of electricity and other household items. As we all knoew that Singapore is a fully developed city with a wonderful tall buildings and the way of managing the drinage system and electricity. Many companies uptake towards building tall apartment.

On the other hand, building tall apartments need perfect planning and system to excute the work, if any minute mistake is done while construction will have to face severe problems like climate changes and need to perform various tests on the final protype of building to withstand natural and man-made activites. The major problem is earthquake which it will destroy the whole building like a cup of coffee so, planning and desgin plays a major role in construction of tall building apartments.

On my view, constructing tall apatment blocks is a optimal way to improve the housing capacity and can manage the population in urban areas. People can afford the house and helps financially. To achieve this, should concentrate on planning and desgin of buidling that can protect from all kinds of natural and man-made activites.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

You address the question by presenting a partly supportive position: tall apartments can increase housing capacity, while requiring careful planning and carrying risks such as earthquake damage. The Singapore example also gives the discussion a relevant real-world reference. However, the position is not consistently expressed: the opening says you are “partially agree,” whereas the conclusion calls this an “optimal way” without clarifying the limits of your agreement. Several points, including affordability and the claim that construction makes a city attractive, are asserted rather than explained or supported. To strengthen the response, state your degree of agreement clearly and develop fewer points with specific explanations—for example, how high-rise housing accommodates more residents on limited urban land and what planning measures reduce its risks.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.5

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two contrasting body paragraphs signposted by “On the one hand” and “On the other hand,” and a concluding view. This helps readers identify the main stages of the argument. However, progression within paragraphs is uneven: the first body paragraph moves from housing capacity to city design, electricity use, Singapore, and companies without clearly showing how each point supports the main claim. Some links are mechanical or unclear, such as “Hence, this makes more futurstic” and “Each coin has two sides so.” Improve cohesion by grouping related ideas, using clear references to connect explanations, and making each paragraph develop one central point rather than adding loosely connected claims.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.0

You attempt topic-related vocabulary, including “housing capacity,” “infrastructure,” “earthquake,” and “natural and man-made activities,” and you use some relevant terms for urban development. However, the range is limited and several word choices or collocations make meaning unclear, such as “lower infrastructure planning,” “uptake towards building,” and “a cup of coffee” to describe a building being destroyed. Spelling errors—including “desgin,” “futur stic,” “drinage,” and “buidling”—also occur often enough to distract the reader. Aim for precise, natural combinations and check spelling carefully. For instance, describe the need for “careful infrastructure planning” and say that an earthquake could “cause a building to collapse.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple and longer sentence forms, including a conditional construction about mistakes during construction and a contrast between benefits and risks. However, complex sentences are often faulty, and errors in basic sentence structure and agreement recur. Examples include “I am partially agree,” “building tall apartment will improve,” and “People can afford the house and helps financially.” The opening sentence, “Building tall apartment blocks is an effective way for shortage of housing,” also lacks a clear grammatical relationship between the idea and the housing shortage. Punctuation and sentence boundaries need attention, particularly where clauses are joined with commas. Practise accurate subject–verb agreement, articles, and complete clause structures before adding more complexity.
