Student answer (Band 5.0)
We are going to discuss homes layout in the cities.Cities play a major role in the development and progress of a country. They provide a lot of facilities and resources to make life pleasing and survivable. They give better opportunities of education and employment. That's why, people look for better lifestyle and they migrate towards cities even if they belong to rural areas.Due to these reasons, cities usually face some problems on account of overpopulation. One of these problems is the living accomodation.Cities are often congested with many people so people mostly face living hurdles. In cities , mostly different apartments are designed in various blocks and buildings to provide a large number of people living facilities in limited space.According to me, it's a good thing. It helps people to overcome this particular problem.I live in Pakistan.Like many other countries,it posseses both cities and villages. Its bigger cities include
Islamabad, Karachi, Labore and Multan etc
Similarly,it also has a lot of villages.A great number of people live in villages and villages do support in a country's development.Due to extended space , people in villagez mostly live far way from each other but not always. On the other hand, condition in cities is different. Here people usually live nearby, maybe in same building, same block or same street.Across the major cities of Pakistan , buildings and blocks are organized in such a way that they accommodate various families in their own apartments.A building may consist of 20 apartments or it can be more or less.
Blocks may occupy several buildings.Altogether, these things provide a great deal of convenience.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0
You introduce the issue of housing in crowded cities and give a relevant personal context by referring to Pakistan and its larger cities. However, the response only minimally answers the central question: it does not clearly state how far you agree that tall apartment blocks are the best way to provide enough homes, nor does it compare this approach with alternatives. The discussion mainly describes urban and village living and says apartments offer convenience, but it does not explain their advantages or limitations in enough detail. For example, the reference to buildings containing 20 apartments is not developed into a reasoned argument. State your position clearly in the introduction, then support it with specific reasons and examples directly related to high-rise housing.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The response has a recognisable movement from the importance of cities, to population pressure, and then to housing arrangements in Pakistan. Linking expressions such as “Due to these reasons” and “On the other hand” help signal relationships between ideas. However, the progression is difficult to follow because the discussion shifts to villages and national development without showing how these points support the answer. The response is also presented as one long paragraph, so the main argument and supporting points are not clearly separated. Some links are repetitive or awkward, and references such as “these things” are vague. Organise the essay into distinct paragraphs and use each one to develop a clear point about the benefits or drawbacks of tall apartment blocks.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.0
You use a range of topic-related vocabulary, including “overpopulation,” “congested,” “employment,” “accommodate,” and “apartments,” which allows the reader to understand the general subject. There are also attempts at less common expressions, such as “a great deal of convenience.” However, several choices are inaccurate or unnatural and sometimes make the meaning less clear: “homes layout,” “living hurdles,” and “living facilities” do not express the intended ideas naturally. Spelling errors such as “accomodation,” “possesses,” and “villagez” also reduce accuracy. Aim for precise housing vocabulary and check spelling; for instance, distinguish between housing supply, residential accommodation, and living conditions.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
You attempt a mixture of simple and more complex sentence forms, including cause-and-effect structures such as “Due to these reasons, cities usually face some problems” and a contrast introduced by “On the other hand.” Most of the meaning remains understandable. However, sentence boundaries and punctuation are often poorly controlled: several sentences run together, as in “Cities play a major role… country. They provide…,” while commas are inconsistently spaced or used. There are also errors in sentence construction and agreement, including “people mostly face living hurdles” and “A building may consist of 20 apartments or it can be more or less.” Use full stops consistently, check subject–verb agreement and articles, and revise awkward clauses into complete, clearly structured sentences.
