Student answer (Band 5.0)

The best way to provide enough homes in large cities is to build tall apartment blocks i totally agree with this statement because it saves more land and is much cheaper than homes.

I think by bulding tall apartments in big city is useful beacuse large cities are too much busy and have more oppertunities regarding to jobs but if houses and homes are built there would be too much land needed so which seems to be dificult in big cities so by building tall aprtments and giving all the facilities in it which we need in homes will be useful for the peoples and more people will come and live there and get the job opportunity and will grow the city economy.

The second big reason is that homes are costly to build and to rent so by building appartments people could have cheaper homes and would save more money which will use in other things and people who just want a small homes for limited family appartments will be very useful and will happy to live in it , it saves time because people coming from far areas waste their time in travelling so by living in cheaper appartments they don't have to travel to go back to their homes.

As the result by building appartments in large cities are the best way to provide enough homes as it is much cheaper than homes and also people with larger families and limited families are happily to live there and save time and money. On the second hand it saves land because apartments building cover minimum lands and have large appartments.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.5

Your position is clear from the opening: you totally agree that tall apartment blocks are the best solution. You give relevant reasons, especially that they use less land and may provide more affordable homes, and you connect housing to access to jobs. However, the response addresses the task only partially because these points are asserted rather than explained with specific support. For example, the claim that apartments are cheaper than houses is not illustrated or qualified, and the point about saving commuting time needs a clearer link to living in city apartments. The conclusion repeats the main claims but adds little development. To strengthen the response, explain each reason in more depth and include a concrete example or acknowledge a limitation.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The response has a recognisable structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The main ideas are generally grouped by topic, with land use discussed before affordability and travel. However, progression within paragraphs is difficult to follow because several ideas are joined into long, loosely connected sentences. For instance, the second paragraph moves from land scarcity to facilities, population growth, jobs and the economy without clearly showing how each point relates to the next. Linking phrases such as “The second big reason” and “As the result” help signal stages, but some transitions are repetitive or awkward, and “On the second hand” does not clearly introduce a contrast. Use shorter sentences and make each paragraph develop one central reason in a logical sequence.

Lexical Resource: Band 4.5

You use enough topic-related vocabulary to communicate the general argument, including “tall apartments,” “land,” “jobs,” “economy,” “rent” and “travelling.” However, the range is limited and several words or phrases are repeated, particularly “homes,” “apartments” and “people.” There are also noticeable spelling and word-choice problems, such as “bulding,” “oppertunities,” “dificult,” and “appartments,” which reduce accuracy and can make the reader pause. Some combinations are unnatural, including “large cities are too much busy” and “limited family.” Build a more precise vocabulary for housing and urban planning, and check spelling carefully. For example, use “housing” where appropriate and describe families as “small households” or “larger families.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.0

You attempt both simple statements and longer sentences with reasons, using forms such as “because” and “so.” This shows an effort to connect ideas, but the range is limited and complex sentences are often faulty, so the reader must work to identify the intended relationships. Examples include “I think by building tall apartments in big city is useful” and “As the result by building apartments in large cities are the best way,” where the sentence structure and subject–verb relationship are unclear. There are also problems with articles, plurals and punctuation, as in “a small homes” and the missing full stop before “On the second hand.” Practise building clear subject–verb sentences first, then combine them with accurate subordinate clauses and punctuation.
