Student answer (Band 5.0)

70-30

Intro

In many major cities, growing population has created an increasing demand for housing. While constructing high-rise apartments can accomodate a large number of population in limited space, I believe that is one of the most effective solution to the shortage of housing over the demand. However, such kind of building requires more maintance than small individual houses.

B1 Agree

Save space

In metropolitan cities, constructing taller building saves space in order to accomodate huge population. As developing cities attract more population, the piece of land not just gets costier, but the shortage of space is created over the high demand. For example, Individual houses placed side by side covers majority land, whereas, with same individual house space they can build mutliple storey building. Therefore, the builders looks over this concern and construct towers that can give space to multiple families.

B2 Disagree

More maintanace

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 4.0

You give a relevant position: high-rise apartments are an effective way to accommodate many residents where land is scarce, while noting that they require more maintenance. The example contrasting individual houses with multi-storey buildings supports your main point. However, the response addresses the question only partially: the opposing point is merely a heading, “More maintanace,” with no explanation, and the conclusion is also left blank. The introduction’s “70-30” does not clarify how strongly you agree. The response is 147 words, below the required 250, so there is not enough development of reasons or examples. State your degree of agreement clearly, explain the maintenance drawback, and complete the response with a conclusion.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 5.0

The headings “Intro,” “B1 Agree,” and “B2 Disagree” show an attempt to organise the response, and the first body paragraph follows a basic sequence from limited land to the benefit of taller buildings. Linking expressions such as “For example” and “Therefore” help connect the example to your point. However, the overall progression is incomplete: the second body section contains only a note, and “Conclusion” has no concluding statement. The “70-30” label also does not function as a clear signpost for your position. Develop each paragraph around a complete point, use transitions to show how the counterargument relates to your view, and finish with a summary that reinforces your position.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use some topic-relevant vocabulary, including “high-rise apartments,” “metropolitan cities,” “shortage of space,” and “multiple families.” These choices make the subject clear and show an attempt to use more than basic everyday language. However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, such as “a large number of population,” “costier,” and “shortage of housing over the demand.” Spelling errors in “accomodate,” “maintance,” and “mutliple” also reduce accuracy. Aim for natural collocations and check spelling carefully; for example, refer to “a growing population,” “rising land prices,” and “housing demand exceeding supply.” This would make your argument more precise and fluent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of sentence forms, including a concessive opening with “While” and a cause-and-effect sentence beginning “As developing cities attract more population.” The main meaning is generally understandable, but errors in agreement, articles, and sentence construction occur in several places. For instance, “Individual houses placed side by side covers” has a plural subject with a singular verb, while “the builders looks” has the same agreement problem. “I believe that is one of the most effective solution” also needs a clearer clause and plural agreement. Practise checking subject–verb agreement and article use, and build complex sentences around a clear subject and verb. More accurate control would make your reasoning easier to follow.
