Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 5.5)

The best possible method to provide sufficient homes in metropolitan cities is to construct tall apartment buildings. I firmly agree to this statement as this would provide people to move out of their comfort zones and interact with people.

First things first, the tall buildings would look magnificient and the people would be amazed by the infrastructure. They will have comparitively more space which will provide more people to stay comfortably. For instance, recently a survey was conducted in which it was found that people usually prefer apartment buildings over bungalows or independent houses because they have many amenities included like swiming pool, gym, club, park and spa for people of any age for a very reasonable range. Children can enjoy playing in the park or swim meanwhile the parents can have their spare time to walk and enjoy the nature. Elders can walk and be in a peaceful environment.

Moreover, these type of townships usually have a joined community and enhanced safety. People tend to celebrate the festivals together and therefore no one feels lonely. Socializing is a crucial skill which people usually forget because they get too much involved in their own work. For example, full-time workers overwork and stress themselves out with the workload but when a person ocassionally experience the joy of togetherness then maybe people will find a way out to balance their work and life.

To conclude, constructing the tall apartments in the large cities would allow people to socialize more, they can have a solid space and safety for themselves and their families.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 5.0

Your position is clear: you firmly agree that tall apartment buildings are an effective way to provide homes, and you give relevant reasons involving shared amenities, community, and safety. The examples about facilities and residents celebrating festivals together help explain the benefits. However, the response only partly develops the central issue of providing enough homes. Much of the first body paragraph focuses on how attractive and comfortable apartments are, rather than explaining how building upwards increases housing capacity or uses limited urban land efficiently. The claim that residents will interact more is also not clearly connected to the question of housing supply. Develop the argument around density and compare it briefly with alternatives, while explaining how each example supports your position.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a clear overall structure: an introduction, two body paragraphs beginning with “First things first” and “Moreover,” and a concluding paragraph. The ideas within each paragraph are generally related, and examples make the discussion easier to follow. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. “First things first” is informal, and the transition from the survey claim to the list of amenities does not clearly show how this evidence supports providing enough homes. In the second paragraph, the discussion shifts from community safety to work stress and work-life balance, so the main line of reasoning becomes less focused. Use more precise links between claims and examples, and keep each paragraph centred on one reason that directly answers the question.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use an adequate range of vocabulary for the topic, including “metropolitan cities,” “infrastructure,” “amenities,” “community,” and “socializing.” These choices help communicate your ideas, and the meaning is generally clear. However, some wording is imprecise or unnatural, such as “provide people to move out,” “a very reasonable range,” and “a joined community.” There are also spelling errors in “magnificient,” “comparitively,” “swiming,” and “ocassionally,” which reduce accuracy. Aim for more precise housing-related language and check spelling carefully. For example, explain that high-rise buildings can “accommodate more residents on limited land,” rather than relying mainly on general descriptions of comfort and facilities.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including clauses with “because,” “which,” and “when,” and most sentences remain understandable. Some grammatical errors occur, but they rarely prevent the reader from following your meaning. For example, “I firmly agree to this statement” uses an incorrect preposition, and “these type of townships” has a disagreement between the demonstrative and noun. In “when a person ocassionally experience,” the verb does not agree with the singular subject; the sentence also shifts awkwardly into “then maybe people will find.” Review agreement, articles, and sentence construction, especially in longer sentences. More controlled complex structures would make your reasoning clearer without sacrificing accuracy.
